Okay, it is cold here, which really is normal for the end of December and all I want to wear is warm and cozy. This Mood Fabrics' Italian Gray French Terry is perfect, it looks just like a chunky sweater knit but it is really a comfy sweatshirt!

Union St. Tee - Indiesew Fabric
All year long, I have been working on finding the perfect t-shirt pattern. I find it very difficult to find a long sleeve t-shirt with the sleeves long enough. So I am trying out different patterns, until I find the one I want to make in multiples.

Simplicity 1499- Jacquard Knit
The temperatures here have been so mild, which is nothing to complain about at all. The above normal temperatures call for a garment perfect for the nice weather. A new vest using Simplicity 1499 and the perfect match, Mood Fabrics' Italian Cobalt Blue Paisley Jacquard. This knit is just a bit heavier and full of texture. These two fabric features made it a good choice for my vest.

It is my most favorite time of the year, Fall Ya'll! Not the season but it is time for
Which in the blog tour world, is my favorite time, right with Style Maker Fabrics' Spring Tour.
I was so thrilled Michelle asked me to be a part of the tour again, this marks my fourth tour with Style Maker Fabrics and I love everything about it. Knit Basics for Fall - Blackwood Cardigan and New Look 6530
Sometimes I just need some basics, fun basics in knit. I bought these beautiful fabrics from Mood Fabrics in August and went to planning for fall. First up is Mood Fabric’s Rust Stretch Knit Pique and let me tell you this fabric is so luxurious and I want all the colors. How many colors? There is nine! The next fabric is Mood Fabrics’ Rust and Navy Striped Rib Knit and as I hoped when ordering these two fabrics look so good together.

Ode to Summer - Feeling Blue in Tea House Top and Roscoe Blouse
I am one that loves when the seasons change but I am always sad when summer comes to an end. I love summer, being outside, my flowers, the pool, grilling and all things summer. In this post, I have two garments, patterns from IndieSew and I have made them in blue fabric. I guess it is my mood, feeling blue that is Labor Day and summer is coming to an end.

Blogiversary - 11 years of Blogging
Hey everyone, 11 years ago I started Girls in the Garden and it happened to be on a Saturday, also. Saturday, August 26, 2006. I started with a post about fabric cards
A few days later I posted my first garment post, Simplicity 4281 and I still have this jacket, I love all the details and the fact it was my first make. Plus it is fun to wear,
Then my latest project, the embroidered tunic.
There are so many things between the first and latest project. People I have met online and in person and the relationships that have developed. The sewing knowledge I have gained from the online community. New fabric stores and pattern lines to try. Changes in my family with additions of
son-in-laws and grandchildren, changes in jobs and a new sewing room!
I am so grateful for the opportunities that sewing and my blog have given me. I feel so blessed to be part of the online sewing community and I want to say thank you.
Thank you for following my blog and my instagram, thank you for leaving such incredible comments and sending such sweet emails.
I am going to give a $25 to Style Maker Fabrics. Just leave a comment about anything and I will draw on Monday, the 28th . Entries will close at 8 PM Central Time on the 27th.

Embroiderer Top - McCall's 7600
I have this thing about fabric, no fabric left behind. What am I talking about? Well, if I finish a project and I have enough fabric left to make something else, I feel this incredible need to do that.

McCall's 7510 - Chambray Cold Shoulder Blouse
What can I say about the cold shoulder look? Maybe I am totally in love with it and keep making top after top! I had purchased Mood Fabrics’ Steven Alan Denim Blue Cotton Chambray in March with the intentions of a Scout Tee and maybe an Archer but plans change! I am sorry to say this particular chambray is sold out but no worries, Mood Fabrics’ has a great selection of Chambray, in prints and solids in several colorways.

McCall's 7445 in Gingham Stretch Cotton Twill
Pinterest was the inspiration for these gingham culottes and I am so happy I took a look for an idea. I really love the look of these and will be so fun for the dog days of summer. Let me restate that as the dog days of summer mean the hot, sultry days of summer and as cute as these culottes are, the are not cool. So my gingham culottes are perfect for the air conditioning while the hot summer is on the outside! I love this Theory Black and White Gingham Stretch Cotton Twill but I am so sorry it is sold out. I just looked last week and it was available but I am sure many others fell in love with the gingham! No worries, there is a nice selection of Mood Fabrics' Stretch Cotton Twill from floral to solid. The pattern is McCall's 7445 which I have made before in a wool pinstripe and was on Mood Sewing Network in February.

Vogue 9260 - Jumpsuit Turned Top
Sometimes things don't turn out like the picture in your head. This top that was a jumpsuit is just that type of picture.
I bought Vogue 9260 with the intention of making myself a fun jumpsuit. My main problem is making a size too big, I went with a Medium and should of done a small.

Simplicity 8084 - Maxi Dress
This Maxi Dress is love at first sight and I am not sure which sight I mean. At first sight when I initially made this pattern, first sight when this fabric arrived at my door or first sight when I put on the finished maxi dress. I think I will just say all of the above and I so happy this maxi dress.

Navy is the Theme for Three New Tops
I tend to sew in color families, especially with knits. I feel it saves time as I don't have to rethread the serger, sewing machine and cover stitch machine. So today, I am sharing three navy tops.

McCall's 7562
Beautiful tencel denim from Mood Fabrics and I knew it would be perfect for a dress. Now are you saying, Lori, this isn't a dress?
I would say, yes, you are right! I tend to sew with a jump, I just jump into a project and this is the case with this pattern. I went with McCall's 7562 for a dress, mainly for the great sleeves.

h Wardrobe Book
Let's face it body image is so much and the person in the mirror we see might not be in reality what is our real body shape and type. I read through h Wardrobe and then got out the tape measure and went to work step-by-step through Valeria's book. I did print out the e-book, it was easier for me to follow with the measuring.
After all the measuring, you sketch out your body per all the measurements
Valeria's image |
All you need is a tape measure in centimeters, which is used in this book. I found the metric system very easy to work with, especially as Valeria has you divide your numbers a couple of times. Let's face it dividing 173 cm is much easier than dividing 5' 8"! In addition to the tape measure, paper, pencil, ruler and a pen.
Let me tell you, stick people are hard for me to draw but with the Valeria's complete and thorough instructions, I have a croquis which looks very much like me. I have always known I have both long legs and a long torso. Now seeing this on paper, really shows me I have a long torso but much of the length is waist to hips.
After you have your initial sketch, make copies and Valeria has you sketch on these possible garment combinations - think length, etc. My plan is to take my croquis every time before I make a garment and sketch the line drawing on my croquis. I think this will be very eye opening and help me visualize if a garment will really look good on me and my body type
For more information, go this post on hWardrobe and take a look at this post with sewing plans and some of Valeria's great sketches.
If interested in purchasing this ebook, head over to hWardrobe - Designing your Handmade Wardrobe
Disclosure - I was given this ebook by Valeria to review on my blog, the opinions are all mine
