McCall's 7445 in Gingham Stretch Cotton Twill

Mood Fabrics' gingham cotton stretch twill made into McCall's 7445

Pinterest was the inspiration for these gingham culottes and I am so happy I took a look for an idea.  I really love the look of these and will be so fun for the dog days of summer.  Let me restate that as the dog days of summer mean the hot, sultry days of summer and as cute as these culottes are, the are not cool.  So my gingham culottes are perfect for the air conditioning while the hot summer is on the outside! I love this Theory Black and White Gingham Stretch Cotton Twill but I am so sorry it is sold out.  I just looked last week and it was available but I am sure many others fell in love with the gingham!  No worries, there is a nice selection of Mood Fabrics' Stretch Cotton Twill from floral to solid.  The pattern is McCall's 7445 which I have made before in a wool pinstripe and was on Mood Sewing Network in February.

Vogue 9260 - Jumpsuit Turned Top

Vogue 9260 jumpsuit made into a top only

Sometimes things don't turn out like the picture in your head.  This top that was a jumpsuit is just that type of picture.

I bought Vogue 9260 with the intention of making myself a fun jumpsuit.  My main problem is making a size too big, I went with a Medium and should of done a small.

Simplicity 8084 - Maxi Dress

Style Maker Fabrics' Les Fleurs Birch Floral Rayon Navy sewn into a Simplicity 8084 maxi dress, designed by Mimi G

This Maxi Dress is love at first sight and I am not sure which sight I mean.  At first sight when I initially made this pattern, first sight when this fabric arrived at my door or first sight when I put on the finished maxi dress.  I think I will just say all of the above and I so happy this maxi dress.

Navy is the Theme for Three New Tops

McCall's 6964 knit top

I tend to sew in color families, especially with knits.  I feel it saves time as I don't have to rethread the serger, sewing machine and cover stitch machine.  So today, I am sharing three navy tops.

McCall's 7562

McCall's 7562 used for a top from Mood Fabrics' tencel denim

Beautiful tencel denim from Mood Fabrics and I knew it would be perfect for a dress.  Now are you saying, Lori, this isn't a dress?

I would say, yes, you are right!  I tend to sew with a jump, I just jump into a project and this is the case with this pattern.  I went with McCall's 7562 for a dress, mainly for the great sleeves.

h Wardrobe Book

About a month ago I received an email from Valeria Speck, asking if I would review her new ebook, h Wardrobe

I took a look at the information on line and found it interesting.

Valeria's book is based on our body, she states "The central piece of your wardrobe
must be your body."   After reading the book, I take that as  know your body and its curves to get the best wardrobe for you.

Let's face it body image is so much and the person in the mirror we see might not be in reality what is our real body shape and type.    I read through h Wardrobe and then got out the tape measure and went to work step-by-step through Valeria's book.  I did print out the e-book, it was easier for me to follow with the measuring.

After all the measuring, you sketch out your body per all the measurements
Valeria's image

All you need is a tape measure in centimeters, which is used in this book.  I found the metric system very easy to work with, especially as Valeria has you divide your numbers a couple of times.  Let's face it dividing 173 cm is much easier than dividing 5' 8"!  In addition to the tape measure, paper, pencil, ruler and a pen.

Let me tell you, stick people are hard for me to draw but with the Valeria's complete and thorough instructions, I have a croquis which looks very much like me.  I have always known I have both long legs and a long torso. Now seeing this on paper, really shows me I have a long torso but much of the length is waist to hips.

After you have your initial sketch, make copies and Valeria has you sketch on these possible garment combinations - think length, etc.  My plan is to take my croquis every time before I make a garment and sketch the line drawing on my croquis.  I think this will be very eye opening and help me visualize if a garment will really look good on me and my body type

For more information, go this post on hWardrobe and take a look at this post with sewing plans and some of Valeria's great sketches.

If interested in purchasing this ebook, head over to hWardrobe  - Designing your Handmade Wardrobe

Disclosure - I was given this ebook by Valeria to review on my blog, the opinions are all mine

McCall's 7564

McCall's 7564 dress made from Mood Fabrics' stretch terry

This coming weekend is a busy one for our family, it is a nurse pinning, three graduations and Mother's Day.  Well, celebrations of this nature calls for a new dress for Mom.  I loved this Mood Fabrics' Taupe/Mocha/Black/Red Cotton Stretch Terry and thought it would work great for a dress.  I want to note that even though the fabric says terry in the description, it is a lightweight knit and I don't feel it has that terry "feel".    The knit will be perfect for s graduation and not look wrinkled after all that sitting.

Year of the Sleeve - McCall's 7542

Mood Fabrics' Cotton dotted Voile for McCall's 7542

The sleeve for Spring 2017 seems to be the trend to have and I am jumping right onto that trend with both feet arms (in this case).  I just want so many of these looks and styles, which means I will be busy sewing statement sleeves all summer long.  For this look, I went with Mood Fabrics’ Dotted Cotton Voile (sold out) but there are several Mood Fabrics’ Voiles in stock or you can look at Mood Fabrics’ Dotted Swiss for the texture of my blouse.  On another note, Amy used this same fabric for a blouse she made for Mood Sewing Network.

Vogue 1522- Mood Fabrics' Eyelet

Vogue 1522 from Mood Fabrics' cotton eyelet

When ordering fabric at Mood Fabrics, sometimes it takes me a long time to decide, just too many options and decisions.  Then there are other times, the fabric is just perfect and I cannot get it into my cart soon enough.  That is the case with this Mood Fabrics’ Nanette Lepore Cotton Embroidered Eyelet, it was so gorgeous on the computer screen and even more beautiful in person.

McCall's 6964 - Red/Navy Stripe Knit

McCall's 6964 in Mood Fabrics' stripe knit, cut shorter and added a pocket.

Have you had one of those projects that starts in one direction and then ends up a totally different way?

Well, this  knit shirt was just that.  I had this idea from I believe a JCrew catalog, a simple stripe shirt with a pleated ruffle on the bottom, about 1-1/2" wide.

McCall's 7445- Wool Twill

Mood Fabrics' Pinstripe wool twill for wide leg cropped pants from McCall's 7445

Hollywood glam, 1940's style is how I feel wearing these striped crop pants.  I am not that good with the fashion eras but that kept popping into my head when I was taking pictures for this blog post.  I feel quite glamorous wearing this outfit.
