Simplicity 1499- Jacquard Knit

Simplicity 1499 from Mood Fabrics' jacquard knit

The temperatures here have been so mild, which is nothing to complain about at all.  The above normal temperatures call for a garment perfect for the nice weather.  A new vest using Simplicity 1499  and the perfect match, Mood Fabrics' Italian Cobalt Blue Paisley Jacquard.  This knit is just a bit heavier and full of texture.   These two fabric features made it a good choice for my vest.

I used some black ponte in my stash to trim my vest but Mood Fabrics has several black pontes.   One thing with the pattern (yes, made it before) the armholes are low and it seems wider right under the armholes.  I raised the armhole and  slimmed the pattern from below the bust to armhole.

I didn't have a zipper long enough, so I used a shorter one in my stash.  I think it looks just fine. I did want to line this vest and felt like a flannel would add some stability to the knit (and a bit of warmth).  I love this buffalo check in the colors of the vest, notice I did not match the checks, fabric and time limitations.

Here are the pockets and front zipper.  With the ponte trim, I sew it on the front, turn it and bind the edge.  I use several pins to hold the ponte binding in place and then stitch in the ditch.  Final step is to trim the ponte close to the stitching.

The forecast says at least a week of great weather,  so I will be wearing this vest so much!
