Mood Fabrics' Poplin Ikat Print and Ottobre 5/2010 #2

Over at Mood Sewing Network, it was decided in February to have another challenge/sewalong.  This part was the easy part deciding what exactly the challenge was to be was the hard part.  Designer inspired was the conclusion and I went to Style.com to see all the designer's runway show for Spring 2014

Another Henley for the Little Guy

This has been a busy two weeks on the work front, which I am not complaining.  Well, the only complaint, not much sewing time.  I did just finish another henley for the little guy, like this one

The  deer fabric came from Girl Charlee and the brown neckband is from an old shirt of mine.  I had no brown knit or ribbing, so I went to my closet.  The deer fabric is part of the Wildlife Collection but this particular one is sold out.

I did have to make the next size but took off 1" in the length.

And that makes it very hard to photograph him! I finished this top during his morning nap, so I just slipped it over his thermal shirt.  The new deer shirt looks a bit tight in this picture, just wanted you to know he is wearing it over another shirt.

And if I need to get somewhere fast, crawling is the best.

Now if he takes a good afternoon nap, my plan is to work on a houndstooth dress for me, fabric from Girl Charlee.

Henley for the Little Guy

I have been doing some sewing for me but took a break from my project and made the little guy a new henley.

I used Ottobre 0106 Baby Basics, an individual pattern.

This is the softest fabric and sewed like a dream.  It seems to be very popular and sells out quickly, but there are some other designs and colorways in this Jay-Cyn for Birch Organic Fabrics.

This is the best placket I have ever made, thanks to Singer Library Sewing for Children

What was the hardest part?  Well, after sewing for 4 daughtes, having the placket go the other way for a boy!

One more thing, little guy's dad loves this fabric,  he has family in Montana and loves the outdoors.  I did call this moose fabric when it come in the mail, I was corrected and told "No, elk!"  It is official, I now know the difference between elk and moose, at least on this printed fabric.

Onsie on the Little Guy

Back in July, I made this onsie and it was big until now.

Here he is in this cute little striped onsie

I love this picture, he is telling us something!

The onsie fits good, it is a 6 month size with one extra inch in the body.  His mom said don't add the inch anymore and make the bigger size, he needs it for the head.  It is a little tight putting it on.  Now I need to order more fabric for him, my selection is limited.

Ottobre Romper - #6 from 2/2002

Ottobre 2/2002 #6 was the pattern for a new romper for the little guy.  This issue is in another language, Dutch I think?  It was pretty straight forward sewing and I dug out a Kwik Sew pattern so I could see how to handle the snap opening for the diaper.

The fabric came from The Fabric Fairy, using a gift certificate from my time on the Super Online Sewing Match.  I cannot find it on the site now, I guess it is sold out.

As you can see I really changed up the back, I used three snaps down the back.  This just helps to get the romper on.

I have made him a romper from Kwik Sew but it is so wide and oversized.  This style is a bit slimmer and it looks so much better one him.

I added 1" to the hem of this romper, oops, too much, looks like he is wearing capris.  I am going to wait until it has been washed and dried once.  Just in case it shrinks, it if doesn't I will cut off some of the length.

He is checking out the camera in this picture, such a serious look.  I had a label that says Road Patrol, thought it was appropriate for this transportation themed fabric.  I used a bit of the knit ribbing to back the label.  It sets it off from the fabric.

I just think it looks so cute on him, the fit is nice and it makes his eyes look so blue.  Here he is checking out the dog.  Little guy is just now starting to take notice of the dog.

Next up one more top for him, long sleeve for fall.  Then back to me, fall sewing here I come.

Best of 2012–for my Family

Let me start by saying I sewed many garments for my youngest 2 girls this year, the majority was maternity.
1,McCall's 5525 – Leopard trench and winner of the Best 2012 Pattern Contest at Pattern Review.  I heart this jacket, Meredith wore it just the other day and hubby was amazed that I made this.  I not sure where he was the entire time I was sewing it and Meredith modeled it


2.  Burda – 7318 – Maternity coat, I have seen this on Erin several times and it looks fantastic.  A perfect style for pregnancy

3. Simplicity 2226 – made twice and will be made again, a great pattern

11.  Ottobre 5/2008 – a pattern I wanted to make for along time and finally got to it.  Erin had this on one day and it is a perfect maternity style

I went back and counted the number of maternity garments, it was 26, now I know where all my sewing time was spent!

Three Shirts One Fabric

I bought this nice knit as a remnant while at the State Softball Championship.  It is a cotton-lycra blend and sews beautifully.
Shirt #1, I didn’t get a picture before it left the house but used Megan Nielson’s Ruched Maternity shirt

Shirt #2 is for me, I used Simplicity 4076

A pattern I have made countless times in the past but have forgotten about recently.
My inspiration is all the stripe shirts with jackets, cardigans, shirts, etc on Pinterest.

Here is my top:

I did not have enough fabric for long sleeves, so I made cuffs.  Thought they would look cute with sweaters and jackets, folded up over the garment.


I plan on wearing this tomorrow with a black cardi, skinny jeans and boots.  We will see how it looks.
Shirt #3
I was able to squeeze out a long sleeve onsie for on-the-way grandson.  It is from Ottobre 3/20004 #2

I had one mistake, but the same end on the snap on the left.  My solution?  Just put in another snap

It was so nice to get in the sewing room.  My schedule is calming down and I seem to have some time now.
Off to create something else, probably finish a baby quilt.

Another Baby t-shirt

Here is another cute little shirt from Ottobre. It was suppose to be more of a onsie with the snaps but I put the snaps on the knit instead of the ribbing part.  The first pull of the snap put a hole right through the thin knit.


I have a couple of boy knits coming from Needle Nook Fabrics but would like to find some like the Ottobre Magazine.  Any suggestions?

Grandbaby

Well, the early ultrasound indicated boy and they have another one tomorrow to verify.  I could not wait any longer to make something, so I pulled out my Ottobre magazines and made jeans from 1/2005 # 6 baby jeans.  The top is 5/2006 #1 body suit.
I did not have enough fabric to make a full bodysuit, so it is a t-shirt this time.
Front – the “x”pieces are knee pads. 

Here is the back:

I made a size 3-6 months but the jeans look a bit big.  I can adjust after the little guy is born!
I used a small tag on the back pocket, from the Sew4Kids email list days – a Lamington Lane label, I believe.  I need to check to see if they are still around.  I am just so thrilled how the entire outfit turned out.  Now to stock up on boy fabric, something new to my house.
Tonight we are celebrating my son-in-law’s birthday (the daddy) and I have wrapped this little outfit up for part of his present.  Chris wanted a gift card to Bass Pro for part of his present and the card is sticking in the back pocket.

Ottobre 5/2008#3

I have been wanting to make this top since I received the magazine, and looking at the date that has been 4 years ago!  I think the style lends itself to a maternity style – just loosen the belt!
Description: Dress or tunic with front paned gathered to the straight yoke with pintucks.  The back yokes with rounded corners follow the curve of the shoulder beautifully.  The sleeve edges are gathered with elastics and finished with narrow hems.  The small loops at the waist of the dress hold the narrow belt that is tied twice round the waist. Dress falls just above the knee or can be shortened to tunic length.
Sizes: 34 to 46
Instructions:  I hadn’t made anything from Ottobre in quite some time but was reminded out good their instructions are.  They are clear, concise, easy to follow. 
Likes/Dislikes:  I have always liked the shape of this dress, the pintucks and the the tie belt.
Changes:  The pattern is designed for a woven and has a zipper in the back.  I used a knit so eliminated the zipper.  I also eliminated the back yoke piece.  Instead cutting the back in one piece, on the fold.  I also did not add the small loops for the belt and just hemmed the sleeves omitting the eleastic.
Fabric: Cotton knit from Joann’s.
Conclusion:  Another winner for Erin’s maternity wardrobe
