Butterick 6720 - Cashmere Coat

I needed a new long wool coat, well let me restate, not a new one, I just needed one. A long wool coat that was warm and stylish was something I needed and wanted.

I ordered Mood Fabrics' Italian Ocean Blue Wool/Cashmere Coating and Rumba Red Lining, I think it makes a beautiful combination.  I love this cashmere/wool, it is so soft and warm and I love how wool sews, not to mention it comes in twelve colors and the lining comes in five colors.

Now that I had my wool, I went in search of the pattern, I went with Butterick 6720, I loved the collar, the belt and the length.  I also liked the fact no buttonholes, which I liked with the thicker wool.

The Wool/Cashmere is reorderable, which is a very good thing..... I didn't order enough the first time.  I quickly went to Mood Fabrics and ordered the extra yardage.

While making this jacket, I added structure to the inside, interfacing, horsehair canvas, sleeve heads and shoulder pads.Which you can read about here

This fabric is 1/16th inch thick, so it took a bit more steps to construct.  on all the seams, I used a hand catchstitch to keep the seams flat.  I also basted the seam allowance on the pockets so they would stay in place while I topstitched them.  After the pockets  were attached to the coat, I removed the basting.

I did lengthen my stitch to 3.5 for the topstitching

The back of this pattern is just a classic look and I like the coat is not oversized at all, just a classic fit and look

The lining was not drafted with a back pleat for ease , so I changed the back pattern piece to allow of this. Grainline Studio has an amazing tutorial for a coat lining, certain areas we need to add some seam allowance to make a better lining.  Check it out, it is so good

One other item was missing in this coat, no belt loops, so I added them.  I measured the width of the belt and made the belt loops long enough to accommodate the belt.  No worries about losing my belt.

Here is the belt and belt loop

This wool was so warm, I did not mind photos in the 20 degrees!  I was warm, well, I should have remembered my gloves.

Disclosure - The fabric for this post was provided by Mood Fabrics in exchange for a blog post on
Mood Sewciety.  The opinions about the fabric are all mine

  7. A coat is something that you will wear throughout the entire year. Despite the fact that the climate is pleasant during the day, more often than not, temperatures will chill off around evening time. bane coat real leather

  10. A coat is something that you will wear all year round. Even though the weather is nice during the day, most of the time, temperatures will cool down at night, sometimes, by 20 degrees or more. Therefore, having a coat is important for staying warm. Leslie Jean Designs

My name is Michael DeBruin and I am from the USA, it's been a while since my lover's attitude changed from being the caring type she has been to me, but later turned out not to be caring at all. But not long, I later discovered that my lover was having an affair with someone else. and also she told me she doesn't need me after all we pass through then a friend told me about a spell caster. that with the spell I will get back my woman, I took his cell number then called him and also what's-app him which he reply to me and I did some sacrifices to the spell man and he bought the items for me which he used for the sacrifices and later called me that before 48 hours my love will come back to me and now we are more in love with each other than ever. you can reach him on WhatsApp +2347012841542 or reach him via mail ; emutemple@gmail.com , my lover returned back and broke up with the other guy she was having a relationship with...
