My Fabric Designs and Trendy Tote

My Fabric Designs' custom printed fabric in Peacock Plumes

College textbooks have always been high dollar items, right?  They were back in my college days and still are that way with my daughters (two graduated and two still in college).  Meredith has so many textbooks this semester, she cannot fit them all into her backpack.  Two of her paperback textbooks were being carried around campus in her arms and one of these textbooks has to last two semesters.  Enter Mom and her sewing machine and some fantastic fabric from My Fabric Designs

.
I decided to protect this textbook investment and make Meredith a fabulous bag.   The bag started with fabric from My Fabric Designs.  Have you heard of this company?  Here is the scoop.....
"My Fabric Designs allows you create your own custom fabric by the yard.  You simply upload your design, choose your fabric and in 7-10 business days have your custom, one-of-kind fabric, in-hand delivered direct to your door. Or you can order from the many designs available.  One other important fact - fabric comes in 26 different kinds - from cotton to jersey to canvas to french terry to performance knit (naming just a few).
My Fabric Designs' custom printed fabric in Peacock Plumes made into a Totally Trendy Tote

I went with this available design of the Peacock Plumes, which is one of Meredith's favorites.  My pattern is one I have made before The Totally Trendy Tote  by Bags by Annie.  I have made two before, here and here in the large size and this time I went with the medium size.

The fabric from My Fabric Designs came quickly to my door and I was very impressed with the canvas, it had some substance and a nice hand.  The feathers are printed lengthwise on the yardage and are very straight on grain, making the cutting so easy.

I did make one major change on the pattern, I eliminated the bottom coordinating fabric, for one reason.  I didn't want to cover up much of this gorgeous fabric print.  I did have to change the handles to one long piece.  I did do some measuring to get the handles even on each side and overlapped the ends at the bottom of the bag.

One thing design feature I like about the Patterns by Annie is the use of Soft and Stable, which makes such a nice structured bag.  The combination of the My Fabric Designs'  canvas and  Soft and Stable makes a bag that will serve Meredith for many years to come, way past the textbook days!

The zipper looks so good next to the Peacock Plumes.  I do buy the zippers longer,   I find a longer zipper easier to install than the exact measurement needed.

One more look at this beautiful fabric and those Peacock Plumes.  One thing about this fabric from My Fabric Designs, it is a bit higher per yard  but remember you are paying for custom, custom design and custom fabric, which means unique to you.  If you upload the graphics, it is even more unique.    I would recommend ordering a swatch of the fabric to make sure you like the fabric and it is what you want for your project.  If this is something you are interested in, sign up for the newsletter, I have seen some nice discount codes in my newsletters.

Disclosure I received this  fabric as an allowance from My Fabric Designs. I was able to select the fabric and what I wanted to create from the fabric.  The opinions of the fabric are all mine.

  6. And girls who graduate to higher grades in school are using them as book bags instead of backpacks. The reason is then they are trendier and look more grown up than does a backpack.travel bags

  8. The bag doesn't limit itself to a particular age group, rather you can find it among all group of women. Besides, they don't carry it for only shopping purpose, but also for general purpose. Blank tote bags
