My Fabric Designs and Trendy Tote

My Fabric Designs' custom printed fabric in Peacock Plumes

College textbooks have always been high dollar items, right?  They were back in my college days and still are that way with my daughters (two graduated and two still in college).  Meredith has so many textbooks this semester, she cannot fit them all into her backpack.  Two of her paperback textbooks were being carried around campus in her arms and one of these textbooks has to last two semesters.  Enter Mom and her sewing machine and some fantastic fabric from My Fabric Designs

Totally Trendy Tote - #2

I was diligently working on a wool jacket for me until I ran out of supplies.  One thing I do not like to do is switch projects mid-stream but at the same time I did not want to be unproductive. This Totally Trendy Tote found itself pushed up in the queue.  This version is for Meredith but it has to hang in the local quilt shop as a sample first.

Tablet Case

Do you all have patterns and supplies for a project AND these items have been sitting around forever just waiting for you to get to them?  I sure do and one of those projects is a table case for Meredith.  I think the fabric and pattern has been in my sewing room since early summer.

The pattern was iCases from Pattern by Annie

This pattern is not difficult to make and goes together very nicely.  Also, I found it quick to make.  Meredith chose the fabric and I love how they go together.  Meredith is not known for her decisiveness and I do believe the fabric was changed several times!

The one issue I had with this pattern, is selecting the size.  The pattern comes in a small and large case.  I measured Meredith's Samsung tablet and went with the small case (6-1/4" H by 9-3/4" W), which was very close to the tablet.  Once I had the case to a certain point, I tested out the size.  Way too small and I was very disappointed, as you see it was just sewing up beautifully.

My solution?

Totally Trendy Tote - First Christmas Present Completed

My girls are blessed to have a wonderful couple in their lives, not related but we always say they are like another set of grandparents.  Each Christmas we get together for a meal and exchange gifts.  The woman is a quilting friend and she makes so many quilts and quilted items.  It is unbelievable how productive she is.

Each month we have a sewing night at the local quilt storeand I decided to make my friend a big bag.  I thought the bag could be filled with "extra" sewing items.  Each sewing night instead of packing a bag she could just grab this bag and head out for sewing.
