Fresh Press Patterns - Willow Top

Time for a new and very fun pattern, which is the Willow Top by Fresh Press Patterns and I made it in a floral and a solid.  I made the floral first and then wanted to make a solid so you could see the amazing back detail.

Joanna of Fresh Press Patterns sent me the Willow Top and I was happy to sew it up.

"The Willow top is loose fitting with a dropped shoulder and ruffle sleeve. It has  a tie back closure with an extra wide center back seam for interesting detailing. The Willow top, with a slight a-line fit and asymmetrical hem (longer in back than in the front) is flirty with any pair of pants and looks very smart with a pencil skirt."

The sizes are XS to XL  and the pattern includes finished garment measurements, which I love.  Everyone has what amount of ease they like and having those finished measurements help so much with size.

The top is drafted for 5'4" to 5'6", so my only adjustment was to add 1-1/2 inches to the length.  The rest was a Medium.  The solid blue one is my second garment so I did taper in at the waist and hips.  It all really depends on the drape of your fabric.

Joanna"s instructions are a RTW sewing process and the order is a bit different than a traditional sewing pattern.  Your process will become more streamlined and you will spend less time between sewing and pressing.  This is so true, I was able to make a  Willow in an evening. As suggested on the pattern instructions, give them a read through before you begin.  The only tricky part is the pivot at the dot for the sleeve but just mark carefully and all will be good.

The fit of my Willow is great and I like the dropped shoulder and the ruffle sleeve.  My blue Willow is a Cotton Voile from Mood Fabrics. and I used the fabric for the neck binding.  I wanted to used a solid so you could see the back detail, which is an extra wide center back seam.  This seam is sewn wrong sided together and then turn under the seam allowance.  The decorative stitch is at the edge of the pressed under edge.  This detail is great for a decorative stitch as I used or what about piping or ribbon or bias trim?  Joanna does include the cutting lengths for the neckline's bias binding which does extend for the ties.  On both my tops my ties are shorter due to fabric limitations.

Woven fabrics are recommended, lightweight with drape and a soft hand.  Shirtings are acceptable but your Willow will have a stiffer look.

This cotton voile has a beautiful drape, see how it moves with the breeze

Now onto my floral version, this fabric is from LA Finch - a rayon Crepe.  Mimi G made a dress last year and Tiffany of Tip Stitched just made a top from this fabulous floral.

I have had this fabric sitting in my closet since Mimi's dress last year and that fabric has been with this little bit of rayon knit (Style Maker Fabrics) waiting to be made into the perfect garment.  The Willow is that perfect garment.  I cut my fabric a bit different and used the florals running top to bottom.

Here is the back seam, sewn like a  traditional seam, isn't that knit binding the perfect color?

I love the contrast of the binding at the neckline, too.  I did hand stitch the binding down on the blue garment but this one I just did a stitch in the ditch

  2. An intriguing discussion may be worth comment. I’m sure you should write much more about this topic, may well be described as a taboo subject but generally folks are too little to chat on such topics. An additional. Cheers 메이저토토사이트
