Something I didn't want to post (it has been in our lives for awhile) but I believe in the power of prayer and good thoughts from others......



 I want to talk about my oldest daughter, Paige and her husband, Jesse.  In May 2011, Jesse was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and started chemotherapy.  His chemo was twice a month for 6 months.  During the chemo, he had a scan and it appeared the lymphoma was in remission.  Jesse had another scan a month after chemo was completed  and one spot showed up.  Two weeks ago, he had a biopsy and it confirmed  Hodgkins. Jesse started chemo again this past Friday, in the the hospital.  He will do this two more times and at a later date more medical treatments (details at a later date).

I want to say how amazing these two are, they are brave and strong and confident and courageous.  Looking this disease straight in the face and telling it where to go!  Their strength fills me with pride and amazement.  They are warriors.

So I pray, make trips to support them, send cards, call, text and do whatever I can to help, doesn't seem like enough.  Then I sew and sew to keep occupied, so I don't call or text too much.  Our family is blessed to have such a fine young man to call son. 

I will post updates occasionally as I know them.

Wardrobe Ideas and White Shirt

Could there be more posts and television segments about Wardrobe planning and ideas?  Or is it I am just noticing them more? Whatever reason, here are a some from the last week  to share with you .

The first one is from the Nate Berkus Show titled Recycle Your Wardrobe, making the most of your wardrobe using a black blazer for several different outfits.  Head over to the watch the episode, while your watching think of it as one of pieces in the SAL.  Say the fur vest, tie sweater or even the puffy vest.  Or get ideas to change one of the list items to a blazer if that fits into your lifestyle more.

The next one I hestitate to post, it will start our minds focusing on spring sewing and we all might abandon the SAL!  (just kidding but boy, some pretty colors and fabrics for you).  This is Cabi Canary and the blog post is titled A Month of Style With Just 15 Fabulous Fashions

A bit of substituting our pieces and we can see how to make what we are sewing into outfits.  Let's see, the tie cardigan for the tie jacket.  Black ponte pants for the yellow pants, turtleneck for gray scooped neck shirt.  You get the idea.

Simplicity 1919 - Ponte Pant

Description: Slim pants in two lengths, skirt and jacket

Sizes:  8 to 24

Instructions:  They are good instructions, nice instructions on zipper.  I didn't follow them to closely since I made some changes.

Fabric  Black ponte from Nancy's Notions.

Changes:  My ponte had a nice stretch, so I eliminated the zipper, oh darn.  I added 3" to the length and was able to use a 1" hem.  The description states slim pants but I narrowed the pant from the knee down but 1/2" on the inner and outer seam.

I also used the instructions from Kwik Sew 3115 to add a bit of elastic to the waistband and it keeps my ponte pants up a bit better!  I will have a tutorial on this technique in a day or two.

Conclusion:  I am thrilled with my ponte pant and happy I have completed a garment for the sewalong.
