Briar T-Shirts

Fabric Mart's recent sale on knits was too good too pass up and I filled the cart up with some new knits.

This lovely stripe rayon was turned into a Briar T-Shirt

I love this fabric and the style of the shirt.
I have made this shirt before in a basic white cotton knit but I do love the rayon so much better.

For the neckline, I cut it on the bias.  I think the bias adds some interest.

I did find this rayon very stretchy.  I had this one on a hanger and it just grew and grew.  A run through the washer and dryer will help to get this back into shape.

Also, purchased at the same sale was a neon pink french terry.  I knew this was perfect for Meredith and she loved the Briar, so I made it with some adjustments.  Not such a long back hem and longer in  in the front. essentially using the cropped version.  First attempt was not enough length in the front and it was way too cropped.

I had plenty of fabric for a second one for Meredith.  Adding much more length to the front was the perfect fix.

I also cut the neckband on the bias

The first top I gave to Erin but it is too short for her, too.  I am looking for a home for the top and will find someone 5'3" or shorter to pass this top to.

Sewing these type of t-shirts is such instant gratification.  I love how they turned out and love how this rayon knit feels.

  1. What a fun tee. The fit looks great, and the bias binding adds a nice subtle contrast! Shoot, I do fit the under 5'3" bill, but neon pink is far too bright for me. I hope you find a good home for it; the french terry gives the tee such nice texture.

  8. I love the neckline. I think you have mentioned this before but do you have a reference for a tutorial on doing the neckline with bias?

    1. Mary, check under my tutorials for a binding for the neckline and the only change it to cut the binding on the bias.
