A Little Help from my Friends

Sewing friends are just the best! On this week of Thanksgiving, I want to say thanks to my sewing friends.  Those friends are ones in my local quilt club and those in the online sewing community.  Some of you from the online sewing community I have had the wonderful pleasure to meet while others are emails, comments on blogs or Instagram.  Also, I am thankful for sewing friends who are so giving of their knowledge, advice and time.  I have had the pleasure to get packages with fabric from a friend, buttons from another one and cording for a jacket from another online friend (to name a few).

My good friend, Meredith,  quilt store owner, shared some extra quilt blocks and fabric she had leftover from projects. She knows my how I like to make baby quilts for gifts.

Mood Fabrics' Silk Blouse - Vogue 1387

Fabric and Pattern,  very important parts of constructing a garment, right?  Well, I had the perfect combination of fabric and pattern right in front of me and I kept missing it!  I purchased  Mood Fabrics' red polka dot silk by Donna Karan and I just kept touching it and touching it.  I had purchased Vogue 1387 after seeing Erica's gorgeous sleeveless blouse.  Then I had one of those light bulb moments - the long sleeve blouse from Vogue 1387 and the red silk would be a perfect combination.  This red polka dot silk is sold out but Mood Fabrics has a great silk  selection and more specifically Crepe De Chine (one of the recommended fabrics on the pattern envelope)

Vogue 1387 - Mood Fabrics

Yes, it is November and I have a blouse completed for the holiday season.  I am feeling pretty pleased with myself.

I used Vogue 1387

and a beautiful  Mood Fabrics' red polka dot silk

Here is just a peak at my sleeve placket, first one I have made in a very long time.  It was easier than I remembered so I will do it more often!

You can see the rest of the blouse over at Mood Sewing Network

Here is the one that started it all

July 2016 update:

I  am updating this tutorial just a bit.  Mainly adding some pictures of the other bags and variations I have made from this basic bag.

Shirts for Sewvember

I am borrowing the "Sewvember" from Instagram, a tag from Bimble and Pimble's Sewing Photo a Day Challenge.

I have several things I would like to sew but number one on my list is some new blouses.  I have plenty of fabric for shirts/blouses and the right patterns, so nothing is holding me back.  Especially since the time change and fall back now, darkness comes early, which means more time in the house.
