Fabric Help Needed

Happy Labor Day to all, hope you are enjoying the day.

I need your help finding fabric that would work for this J Crew blouse
photo from J Crew site - see link above.

I ordered some fabric from Mood but it is a thin voile and while I love the colors, I want something a bit thicker for winter.  Don't worry already have an idea for the Mood Fabric.

So if you know of some fabric that might work for this, please leave me a comment.  I have looked at Liberty of London fabric but they are just too pricey.  The JCrew shirt is $178, so sewing it would be much more affordable, I just haven't found the right fabric.

Colorways?  I am good with blues, greens or purples.

Thanks so much for the help.

  1. Hi Lori! You might look at Hawthorne Threads. Beautiful cottons, presented in so many ways, easy to match up theme, color, design, etc. I love this site!

  3. Have you thought about underlining your Mood fabric with a cotton batiste to give it some weight?

I would have said Liberty of London Tana Lawn! You're right, it's not cheap. And let's not even think about their silk. Though one day maybe I'll indluge one blouse's worth.

I just found another Liberty Line on fabric.com (url below). It's the "Lifestyle StLLe" and costs about $15 a yard. The prints have that LIberty Look, similar to your inspiration shirt. I went ahead and ordered a couple of one yard pieces, I thought I might make into a laptop sleeve to try out. I don't know if they'd have the right drape for your shirt, or not.

My blue Liberty 'Stile' Line piece arrived from fabric.com and I adore it. It is $15 a yard, which certainly isn't cheap, but half the cost of Tana Lawn. From seeing many things you've made over the last few years, I think you'd like it.
