Dolman Top

Over at Mood Sewing Network today, is a couple of knit tops I made this week.  My intentions were for a jacket for these tops, too.  Time got away from me and the jacket just didn't get done.  Last night I went to start that jacket and this stripe knit from Mood Fabrics, called my name.

I had used this knit before only in Navy and just loved it.  I wore and wore this navy Renfrew all summer long.  I thought, the serger is all set up with white thread and a knit top is so quick, yes, a change of plans!

This time I wanted to use the red-orangey stripe knit in a dolman top and I found a free pattern Cation Designs

It went together so quickly.  I compared the top to the Renfrew pattern.  I wanted the dolman to be a bit bigger and judged my size on this.

Some changes:
  • do not add length if you are tall and think you need it.  I added 1" and will not do this next time
  • the measurements for the cuff and neckline pieces are too large.  I took out 4" in the neckline and 1-1/2" in the cuff
So that quick decision to sew this top was a good one, something new to wear today!

Have a great weekend, I am watching the little guy and he is learning to crawl.....gotta go he is on the move!

  5. Hi Lori,
    I love this top!
Do you remember what size you made and what size were the sleeves? I often go by the size you choose as I'm about the same size as you.

    1. I would say between a small and a medium and then I probably sewed some in at the side seams.
