Flashback Friday - New Look 6117

I started Flashback Friday with good intentions and only lasted three Fridays in a row, then I did one Halloween.  Well, it is back and my intentions are to try and post on a regular basis.

Today's pattern is New Look 6117
Check out that variety store stamp on the pattern.

I made this for Paige with white and navy twill.  It was darling on her and she wore it often.

The pictures are from our local fair in 1992, it was a sewing contest.  I don't think we won for anything but the girls had a good time.  Erin is wearing a romper I made for her, quilting cotton probably a Simplicity pattern.

Here is a side view and you can tell the shorts are big on her.  I didn't know a lot about sizing back in those days, I just made it straight from the envelope.  I do know she wore the outfit for 2 summers, so that was a good thing.

I do like doing these but honestly it makes me a bit sad thinking how time flies.

Please note:  I had to turn on comment moderation, one spammer has been working hard on all my posts this morning.  So I turned on moderation in hopes that it will stop. Thanks.

  2. Darling little outfits and I know you enjoyed sewing for your little girls. And big girls. And now grandson. Yes, it is a bit nostalgic looking back and wondering how the time passed so quickly without you noticing.

  3. I love this! My mom made similar stuff for me and my sister (and my little brothers), and I love looking at the pictures. Wish I still had the garments, or even just the patterns. Your girls look totally precious!

  4. How darling! I'm so bad at commenting lately, but appreciate you sharing your sewing - it's inspirational to me! I know whta you mean, time goes too quickly with little ones. I keep asking them to slow down, but it falls on deaf ears. Always loved sailor-type clothing.

  5. I love little sailor dresses and suits. They are classic. I wanted to sew stuff like this for my girls, but I couldn't find any patterns at the time. I even wrote to Leisle at Oliver+S! Now time has gotten away from me. Maybe if I am lucky enough to have grand kids in the future!
I am sorry to hear about the spam. I hope it fades out for you.

  6. Your girls are so pretty and the outfits are too. I know what you mean by time going by so quickly. My DGS is now 19 and I sometimes still think of him as a little boy who I used to sew for all the time.

This is a good series so keep it up. Paige's outfit has both a vintage and classic look about it. This makes me think about two things: the many things my mom sewed for us when we were little girls, and the fact that I sew for my own girls now, and there will be a time in the future when, like you, I am looking back fondly on what I made for them.
