Next up the gift for Meredith a Range Backpack
Meredith is a soon-to-be-mom and recipient of the Rose Coat and overall outfit and I knew she would love a backpack for a diaper bag.
I have always admired Noodleheads' Range Backpack pattern and ordered it for my project. I had the main fabric in my collection, it was purchased from The Confident Stitch booth at Sew Expo. I had a limited amount and wanted a contrast so I went with a denim from Style Maker Fabrics and love the contrast between the two.
I did use the fabric a bit differently than the pattern photo. The denim for the pocket, mainly not to have to match the pattern of the fabric. I did match it on the side seams
One last thing I ordered was the Range Backpack Hardware kit, a must to have a very polished backpack
A couple of other changes, I had to unsew and redo the strap for the d-rings. The instructions state to interface this piece but with the denim it was just to thick and hard to put in the d-ring. I took out the strap and made a new one without the interfacing, this one is so much easier to put in the d-rings.
I added more inside pockets for baby item storage and attached a d-ring clip to the inside with a ribbon. I like the d-ring to hold the pacifier.
The zipper was something I had in my stash and the color works well with the fabric
I was very careful to keep all my items hidden during construction and completion. Meredith came out one day to work in my sewing room. I have this one spot I like to keep completed patterns on my desk by my laptop. This stack is my "to blog" stack. Well, she saw the Range Backpack pattern and said what a cute pattern, I love that backpack. Good thing she wasn't looking at my face or she would of known something was up. I quickly recovered and said yes, wanted to get to that pattern but no time until after Christmas!
Meredith was thrilled with the backpack and loved all the features, which I do too. The instructions for this pattern is amazing and the perfect amount of interfacing for a nice sturdy bag.
I might have to make myself one of these! I am so impressed with this pattern and the amazing instructions. This one is a winner and will be a repeat pattern.
Santa kept a good secret, didn't she?! Great looking backpack!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, love that fabric.
ReplyDeleteLove that fabric choice. I was fortunate enough to shop at The Confident Stitch at their brick and mortar location in Missoula, MT on a stopover while traveling to Banff National Park in Canada.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful backpack and it will make an excellent baby bag. Noodlehead bags are the best 👏
ReplyDeleteThis is a great article and a great read for me. It's my first visit to your blog
