Christmas Gift Sewing

This will be one post about all the Christmas gifts I sewed this December.  This probably is the most gifts I have sewn in quite some time, which makes me so happy

Let's start with the Christmas pajamas for grandkids.  You might notice there are three more pair from last year, yes we had three grandbabies this year!  The pattern is one I used last year, Power Nap pajamas on Etsy.  I love this pattern, it is birth to 10 years old.  The fabric is from Joann's.  The top row is the boy pajamas and the bottom row girl pajamas

I need to order ribbing for my stash.  The black ribbing was great, lycra blend.  The green ribbing no lycra and poor recovery.  What is your favorite store for good ribbing?

One daughter does not have children yet but she is an amazing Aunt, loves all the nephews and nieces with her entire heart.  She casually said I would wear pajamas to match them, so surprise, I did that.

The pants were purchased from Target and I had to get some more yardage to finish the top.

The top had to be pieced to get match the kiddos

Now to ornaments, these were for friends and I  love the design and idea
Merry Christmas ornaments, design from Embroidery Library

The Embroidery Library design is Merry Christmas L7721 and Embroidery Library had the idea of the wooden hoops.  I bought all that Joann's had in stock, getting two different sizes.  These were stitched out on black felt.  I did use black felt on the back, glued to the back of the wooden hoop.

Next up a sweater ornament, I had plans for several but only one got made.  Free design at CME magazine

Now a stocking stuffer for my four daughters, Classy Zipper Pouch, a complete in the hoop design
description from site
This pattern includes eight classy in-the-hoop zipper pouches that are fully lined with finished seams! These projects are great for gifts, classes, holding toiletries when you travel, or just keeping track of small things like USB drives that you don’t want to lose.  The CD includes four designs in two sizes: 5x7 inches, and 6.5x10 inches.

Here is a close up.  I left off the butterfly on this one, not my daughter's style.

I need to trim a bit closer when it is applique.

Last but not least a chef hat and apron for oldest granddaughter.  We gave her a play kitchen for Christmas, so Nana thought she needed this!

The apron is a free pattern, I just made it shorter.

The chef hat pattern and it has velcro in the back for a better fit.

The embroidery is free, from my local dealer, once again I need to learn to trim closer

That is all gift sewing, I this is the most I have done in several years.

  1. Wonderful Christmas gifts! I don't use much ribbing anymore, but find cotton lycra jersey to be a great substitute, and it comes in a lot of colours. Use at least a 95 cotton 5 percent lycra blend.

  2. How lovely and creative. You definitely made good use of your embroidery machine.

  3. Beautiful gifts, Lori. For cuffs and neck bindings, I save scraps of cotton/lycra knit and sometimes ponte. If the fabric has enough stretch, it works well. In addition, I keep black, white and ecru ribbing on hand, which I purchase from The Fabric Fairy. Annette

  4. That is a LOT of FUN gifts! And everything looks great! You did a wonderful job!!!

  5. You have been very busy sewing! Great projects. I am going to look into the zip bag pattern.

  6. Awesome projects Lori! I have been sewing a little after relocating over the summer. Resetting up a sewing room is an huge undertaking I have found. As for the ribbing, good question. I needed more for pj's but Joanns only have grey, black, and white. The lady said that is all that is available and was confirmed to me when I looked online. PeekABoo Pattern Shop has a good selection - - too bad Sew Baby isn't around any longer. If you find another place, let me know please. My stash is about gone too after years of sewing PJs in mass. Happy New Year!
