McCall's 7472 - Plaid Shirt

McCall's 7472 Shirt from Mood Fabrics' Red Tartan Plaid

One more plaid flannel shirt before spring officially comes.  I love this fabric and decided it was time to try a new shirt pattern, too.
As you know, the Archer Shirt is my usual go-to pattern but I decided something new was due.
So this pattern is McCall's 7472 in view C and the fabric is Mood Fabrics' Red and Black Tartan plaid
I was drawn to the raglan sleeves on this shirt, just a bit of a different look.

I went with a size 12 and added one inch to the sleeves.

The fabric is such a nice weight, in fact it is perfect for feel and weave.  I did my usual matching at the underarm seam, which is Grainline Studio's tip.

I am so happy how the front and the sleeves match at just below the shoulder.

I did cut the front band with several inches of extra length, that way I could just move it up or down to match  the horizontal plaid.  Luck was with me, I was able to match the plaid almost perfectly at the front band and front.

On the other band (the one with the buttons) I just turned the band over and had the mostly red part of the fabric with the small black lines.  You can see it at the top of this picture.  Isn't it great when things just work out?

The last step took the longest, I didn't have any black buttons in my button box.  Patience is not one of my virtues and I really wanted to finish this shirt.  Instagram to the rescue and I put on a picture of the plaid and several buttons but no black.  The response was overwhelming to wait on black.  I ordered several buttons from Wawak Supplies then found some at Wal-Mart.  I went with the
Wal-Mart buttons and finished my shirt last week.    I am so happy I waited, the black buttons are perfect.

One more front view.  I think this will be worn with leggings and jeans alike.  It is just a fun shirt and I love the raglan sleeves of this design.

Tonight I am starting a spring sewing project, I cannot believe it is March already but the daffodils are starting to bloom so I think I need to switch gears.

    1. That is the way it is here in MO - daffodils blooming, trees with their flowering buds. It is the wind that is so bad, blowing so hard. I can't believe how early spring is coming.

  5. I have this pattern to make out of a herringbone flannel. Looks great on you!!! Hope it looks as good on me. You really matched your plaids well! It is really frustrating when you match all the plaids and those at the back of the sleeve just don't seem to cooperate!
