Vogue 8997 - Mood Fabrics' Abstract Jersey

Did you all hear me shouting for joy on Saturday?  I made it to my sewing room, a day late for a new dress for a dear friend's daughter's wedding but 13 days early for my dress for Kaitlyn's rehearsal.
I love this pop of red color on this Mood Fabrics' knit and the pattern is Vogue 8997, which is a custom fit pattern with A,B,C and D cup pattern pieces

I had planned on making View B but once again I did not have enough fabric, so View E was my choice.

I made several changes since my fabric is knit and not one of the recommended fabrics:
Linen Blends, Crepe, Tropical Wool, Broadcloth

I will just list the changes
  • I eliminated the center front seam on the bodice and skirt front, I did not want those pieces interrupted by a seam
  • In these mulit-cup patterns I do better going up a size and using the B cup pattern piece.  I made a 14B, when in Vogue I usually make a 12
  • Since my jersey had lots of 4-way stretch, I went with a 12 at the shoulder seams, raising the front neckline a bit
  • I turned under the seam allowance for the neck and armscye.  Probably should of added some clear elastic to the neckline to prevent gapping.
  • At the v-neck I added stay-stitching at 1/2" and clipped the v-neck to this stay-stitching for easier turning
  • I tapered the front princess seams at the arms to get a closer fit.
  • the back was very big, I took in the CB by 1/2" at the top to 3/4" at the waist.  The princess seams were taken in 1/2" at the waist
  • I had planned on lining the bodice piece but after so many changes while making the bodice, I passed on the lining.  I really wasn't sure what size my back pieces were!
  • I added 1" to the bodice (see last photo for more details)
  • I had to taper the derriere area at the princess seams for a more flat bottom
  • I did not add any length the the skirt part and ended up taking off 2"
  • Eliminated the zipper, the knit goes on easy.

Here are a couple of photos of the back, I am so pleased with the fit.

I think the flared skirt would be super cute in this pattern and more forgiving in the middle.  I am holding the stomach in and wearing my Spanx!  This fabric is a viscose jersey and I looked up visose:
Viscose is both a semi-synthetic fabric formerly called viscose rayon or rayon

So makes perfect sense with the cling factor, that rayon just loves to cling.

Yes, my eyes are closed in this picture but I like my hair and the dress, so you get to see this photo, too!  Ha ha!

I added 1 inch to the front and back bodice and I wanted you to see where that raised waistline hits. The arrow points right to the highest seam point.

I love my new dress and it will be perfect for the outdoor rehearsal on the 31st.  If it keeps raining, my shoes will be wedges, all these heels did was sink into the grass.
