The Jakelyn Quilt

On August 1st, Kailtyn will be marrying Jake and there is much happiness and wedding preparation around here.  I asked them if they wanted a quilt and the answer was yes!  They both like a more rustic decorating style with western flair mixed in.  Browns, blues, blacks and creams seem the  way to go.

Butterick 5997- Red Challis Rayon

I wanted a blouse, pullover style, interesting front slit, some beautiful details, shirttail hem and maybe a roll-up sleeve.  Well, I found that combination in Butterick 5997, specifically View A with a collar.

This is a nice pattern but you will need to make some changes and I will get to that later.   I do believe what makes this pattern so very wonderful is the Rayon Challis fabric.

April Showers- Lap Quilt

This Monday and next Monday will be quilt showcase days, then I will be all caught up.  I am a fan of Bonnie and Camille's fabric.  I think it really is the colors that draw me in but whatever it is, I cannot resist each new collection.  I used two jelly rolls for this quilt, and was inspired by a snowball quilt idea.

Vogue 8805 - Red

Red is the color of the day.  Why?  Well, you all have said, Lori, you look great in red and now all I want to sew is red fabric!  I went with a quick knit dress from red ponte (Fabric Mart I believe)

This is a great dress pattern, fun lines and great possibilities.  I went with the one-color basic dress but it is red!

Jacket Help Please

Do you all have times when your sewing plans change?  I ordered this tweed from Mood

and I  was planning on Vogue 1440

but now I really don't want this anymore, not wanting the fringe and this look.

So I was looking at Net-a-Porter
and found this

So what do you think of the tweed jean jacket?  Any other ideas?  Moto-jacket or bomber jacket?

Cheerio Quilt

At the end of 2014, I didn't blog much and spent time with family and making a couple of quilts.  I wanted to concentrate on controlling the quilting cotton.  Back from the long arm quilter is one of these quilts based on pattern by Camille Roskelley

Selfish Sewing Week with Josephine Top

Hey if you haven't heard it is Selfish Sewing Week, which means it is all about sewing for yourself this week.  So bring out the fabric and a pattern and make yourself something fabulous.   It could mean some fabulous prizes, too.  When Allie at Indiesew asked me to be part of
Selfish Sewing Week, I was thrilled and very quickly responded YES!

Gallery Page

I have been working hard, check out my Gallery tab on the home page on
Girls in the Garden

I have linked most of my garments from 2006 through 2012.  Only two more years to go and I will be current.  It has been fun remembering what I have made, seeing which garments are still favorite, how my photos have gone from dressform shots to me and how much more I am sewing now.

Note - This is why there is on Friday Fashion Inspiration today, I was determined to get a majority of this project completed.

McCall's 6992- Neon Pink

Have you ordered fabric thinking it would be fabulous for you but when you open the box it turns out it is fabulous for someone else?  This is what happened with this fabric from Emma One Sock, I loved what I thought was a soft pink on my monitor and in reality it is a neon pink.
McCall's 6992 sweater knit top

Last Sunday afternoon, I said to Meredith, who loves the neon colors, I will make you a sweatshirt using McCall's 6992 and this fabric, okay?  Meredith wasn't quite sure about it, the fabric was maybe too bright for her.  We both loved the fabric and the texture and my plan when I ordered was to use the texture fabric for the sleeves, too.

Vogue 8909 - Black Denim Ponte

I am in a spot between sewing for winter and sewing for spirng.  I thought Vogue 8909 would be a good transition  piece even when snow is still in the ground.  The fabric is a black denim ponte from Emma One Sock and I knew this was just the fabric for this pattern.

Border Print Maxi Skirt -McCall's 6755

Oh, the maxi skirt, where have you been all my life?  I do love this look but needed a dressier maxi in my closet and in my wardrobe.  Enter this fabulous Mood Fabrics' Italian Marc Jacobs Border Print and the idea of a straight maxi with a nice side slit.
