Some PIans for Fall Sewing

Pinterest is one of my favorites spots..... I can look, plan and then look some more.  I pin things from blogs, fashion sites, retail sites, to name a few.  I still tear pages out of magazines but with Pinterest I am so organized, no more bookmarking, no more emailing myself links, no more trying to remember "where did I see that?"  I use to spend way too much time on Pinterest, just like with anything new.  Now I feel it is a good balance and I still am getting things accomplished.

I thought I would share a few things I have pinned for fall sewing ideas.

I love this blazer and have to get some fabric to make it.

How about this top?  ponte here I come.

A new look on the peplum, I like the pleats for a bit of a change.  The belt and the pearls are a nice touch, too

The leopard coat - I already have this fabric from Mood.  It is in my project queue approximately #3 on the list

A floral blouse, I have fabric for this, too.  In fact two different ones.  I think one will be a traditional blouse and the other fabric will be for a different type.

A leather trimmed top.  Have fabric coming for this.

A luxe sweatshirt - have fabric on the way for this, too.

This fun tunic - fabric purchased a bright pink Thakoon from Mood.  A bit of bright color for fall but more for the dreary days of winter
Pinterest - Burda pattern

Some other ideas pants I love my Burda 7447 pattern and the pants I have been making from them, so plans for a few more of these.

a jacket (either Simplicity 2250  or 2446 or Hot Patterns Riveria jacket), possibly a skirt.  From this fabric.  Actually, I have enough to make a jacket and a skirt.  Any thoughts on the jacket pattern?  I am leaning toward the 2250, I like the no lapels and the rolled up sleeves.
Mood Fabrics' brocade

and I have tops made from this fabric (my Mood Sewing Network post) and I think it looks really good with the above fabric.  That is why I want to make a jacket.

There are no dresses in my plan, I just don't wear them that often.  My job really requires jeans with occasional pants.  so I try to do tops and jackets, to dress up the jeans or pants.
My goals for fall sewing
1.  Make things I will wear often, things that will work in my everyday life.
2.  Fill up my closet, things that will go together and make it easier to get dressed each day.
3.  Try some new techniques and new fabrics, expand my horizons.

Do you Pinterest?

What about your next season sewing plans?  goals?

Suggestions or ideas for what I have posted?

  1. You have some great things pinned -- I especially love that first jacket. I also made boards and pinned all my patterns. That way when I'm in the fabric store I can look my patterns up on my pinterest and see what I have and how much fabric I need, etc. This would probably not work on vintage patterns, but so far it's worked pretty well for what I do.

    1. That is a great idea, Angela. An easy way to see yardage requirements and notions.

  2. I really like what you have planned! I have a Pinterest board, too. It gives me some ideas of what I would like to sew up. I have a board for me and one for girl. It really helps to hone in on what to make!

    1. Thanks, Stacy, PInterest is a great asset. One of the twins just wrote a paper on it for college!

  5. I love the looks and fabric you've posted. I do like Simplicity 2250 for a more casual jacket. With my 13 year old's help I finally got on Pinterest to keep my pattern wants, DIY posts, and inspiration pics organized. One of my goals is to make a button down shirt. The Marc Jacobs plaid voile you used to make one of your Archers went on sale at Mood today and I might have just bought some!

  7. I don't pin but I love browsing at the mall now that I sew. It's amazing how my eyes have changed and it's so much fun just to plan in my head everything I want to make. I love your picks. I need to make pants.

  8. I like your choices for Fall sewing. I need to plan for Fall, even though I never completed my Spring/Summer wardrobe plans! I 'pin' but have never integrated its usefulness until lately. I'm with Jenny Mac in that since I began sewing my own clothes earlier this year, I don't buy anything at the mall, but love browsing and seeing how garments are made. Thanks Lori!

    1. Lisa, I am with you, I try to limit what I buy. After all, I have this fabric and patterns, I should put them to good use! My motto should be no more piles of fabric and patterns, turn them into garments. Have fun sewing.

  9. I have planned a few things for Fall sewing. Christine Jonson Double Collar Jacket (my first time trying her patterns) in a wool boucle (grey and lavender). I have some beautiful leopard sweater knit that I'm planning a peplum top (love the pleated look you pinned) Just to name a few. I have begun pinning sewing ideas too, I also like to cut out pix's and put them in a notebook and jot down what fabric I have in my stash to pair it with - helps me to remember what I have on hand.

This post reminds me of listening to you on Sew Forth Now. It's the kind of writing that inspires my sewing. I'd like to see you make that simple peplum jacket. I think the multi-faceted jacket is really pretty, but even if I made something along those lines, it would mostly sit in my closet. I was thinking I wouldn't sew dresses much anymore - I'd gotten ride of most of them in a ruthless closet clean out- but then I made two casual ones - plus a denim skirt recently- all of which I find I wear a lot. Suddenly I do want dresses. But I've become more analytical about how and when I wear them, which I also credit to you. So I'm very cautious about the patterns I use. Simple lines and less busy fabric, that work on a bike or going to class. Special occasion dresses are fun, but I really only need one good one. If I make a new special occasion dress, it will replace the one I'm keeping for now.

I love to use Pinterest too! And I agree that - like Facebook - it can be a waste of time OR a great tool. Kind of like the telephone when it first got going. I started out with a sewing inspiration board, and now I have them on a variety of sewing subjects like draping, dress forms, fabrics, Liberty fabrics (!), jeans sewing, historical and retro sewing inspiration, and millinery.

    Thanks for further inspiration, Lori.

    1. Great job on the closet clean out, it is hard to do but worth it in the end. I read on another blog, this woman limits her closet to 40 hangers! I would find that very hard.

  11. You have some great picks! I can't wait o see the leopard coat and the peplum top. I too am addicted to Pinterest, trying to limit my time on the computer and IPAD so that I can actually sew instead of reading through sewing blogs...LOL this is my top addiction and PatternReview.
