Thakoon Scout Woven T-shirt with Khaki Burda Pants

Enter into my sewing room two fabulous Mood Fabrics' Thakoon prints.  First to arrive to was Navy Abstract Soft Cotton

My plan was a Butterick top but then I found this  Anthropologie shirt.  So forget Butterick and enter Grainline's Scout Wovern T-shirt.  I just had to go shop for another fabric at Mood to get this look.  I tell you that is a hard job (ha ha)  but I stepped right up and went to shopping.  It wasn't long and I found just what I wanted.  This Thakoon Delft Blue Floral Silk Crepe De Chine

First time I thought I would go for a more subtle look

I found the shirt to run on the large side, I took in the side seams, took some off the shoulders and it resulted in a much better fitting shirt.

Now close up time, the binding

I added a pocket to the front

And the sleeves.

This is such wonderful fabric, I wore this top to an outdoor bbq and I was cool and comfortable the entire July night.  The main fabric is a cotton but I think  it has the feel of silk.

Add to my top, a pair of Burda 8884
pants, my go to pants pattern.  I used Mood Fabrics' Italian cotton suiting

I tapered the legs more and shortened them.

These pants have been in construction for over a 6 weeks.  First my serger broke and was at the shop for repairs for a month, then another project had to get done.  Finally, I was able to finish them.  I like to use my serger to finish the seams, especially in something I will be wearing quite a bit.

A look at the inside of the pants, I pinked the edges of the pockets so they would not be noticeable on the right side.  I also added some quilting cotton from my stash to bind the waistband

In this 6 weeks, my husband and I bought bikes, he rides with me about 3 nights a week, (crazy work schedule).  I try to ride 6 nights and pedal about 10 to 11 miles a night.  The result, a weight loss and changes in my shape.  My pants need to be taken in a bit but I am certainly okay with that!

So back to the sewing room and fix these pants, I think they just don't want to leave the sewing room!

  3. Ooh, I just love what you did with that Thakoon cotton! The print mixing is so great, and I agree - that fabric feels like silk. So heavenly.

Also: YAY for bike riding! It's the best, isn't it? :D

  4. Cute shirt and love your pants! I always enjoy your sharing some of your construction techniques as I'm on such a learning curve with garment sewing.

Coincidentally my husband purchased bikes for us a few months ago and though there's not a (safe!) place to ride in our rural area, we take them to our closest city on the weekends that has built a new 'trail' just for bikers and walkers on/over old train tracks. It is such FUN! Feels a little like being a kid again. Glad you've got a place to ride nearby and are having fun too.

    1. Thanks, Lisa. I like the bike trails that are popping up around towns. We don't have one in our town, so we ride 3-5 miles of gravel and then reach our town and nice smooth pavement! It does feel like being a kid, have fun riding your bikes.

  5. I like the Delft blue fabric (Delftsblauw), Delft is a place in The Netherlands and our country is famous because of the large amounts of bikes. I love to cycle too :). Good idea to keep the pattern simple, I think that will enhance the lovely outcome of the fabric. Nice shirt!

  7. Lovely-I just finished a Scout in teal silk. Isn't it fun? Is that an arena in your back yard???

    1. Thanks, Mary, oh, teal silk sounds lovely. Not an arena, just fence, we are cattle producers.

  10. What wonderful fabrics! and such a fresh and cool looking outfit. I had to tweak my Scout on the sides a little bit as well, and make it a little longer. Biking, tone, and weight loss - good for you, you look great, like you really feel well.

  19. What a great outfit! The combination of Thakoon fabrics is just gorgeous! I really need to learn how to fit pants (I made a pair of Sewaholic Thurlows, but can't really wear them). I love biking and you're reminding me that my husband and I don't get around to it nearly enough.

I love both of these prints. I am not sure how I feel about just putting a random block of one in the middle of the other.

  21. THE EASY WAY TO RECOVER YOUR LOST CRYPTO/FUNDS: Lost hope in a crypto scam? I got my $394,330 back! I invested $430,000 in a bogus crypto site. Big returns promised, withdrawals blocked, extra fees demanded – it was a nightmare. Feeling trapped, I even considered the unthinkable. My family helped me through it, and my niece suggested HACKERSTEVE911. They'd helped her with grades, but I'd never thought of them for this. To my surprise, they tackled crypto scams too! I contacted them, expecting little. But within four days, they recovered $394,330! My hope, my life, was back. If you're in a similar situation, don't lose hope. Reach out to them via hackersteve911@gmail.com. They're real heroes, and they can help you too.
