Eyelet skirt

I have spoken about Cabi for inspiration.  Last week, they had a wonderful blogpost full of ideas. Several things from that post, I want to sew for the remaining days of summer.  The first one is the eyelet skirt
I found a tutorial at Crafters Hours and decided to use that for the pattern, which is very well written and easy to follow.  I omitted the pockets but followed the rest.  I mis-read the instructions, I used the elastic for the entire waistband piece.

I used some eyelet from fabric.com and batiste for the lining.  The eyelet's right side is very shiny, not a look I wanted, so I used the wrong side which looks fine and has no shine.

Also, the hem of my garment is the scallops of the eyelet.

Instead of using the eyelet for the waistband, I just used the batiste.

here is my finished skirt

  1. Pretty summer skirt. I really like your eyelet fabric too. Some eyelets can look a bit cheap but not yours.

  3. It suits you. I like the way you used the batiste at the waist. It would reduce bulk.

  6. Ditto above comments. Do you love that skirt, because it is deserving of love! Your flower gardens are so pretty. You've put a lot of work into them. How do you stand to work them though, when it's so hot?

  8. Very pretty. I have an eyelet skirt that I bought at Kohl's about 4 years ago and I love it. I wear it all summer! Yours is really nice.

That is so perfect for summer. Just this morning I was looking in my closet thinking I needed to finally make myself a white eyelet skirt. I bought fabric a few summers ago and never got around to it - guess this is my sign to get busy. :-)

  10. It's beautiful! It actually reminds me of a Vogue pattern from the early 80s that had a full skirt, cami and jacket all sewn from eyelet fabric. I sewed them all and wore those pieces until they were threadbare. Hope you get as much wear out of yours!
