Top ten Garments in 2010

I saw this on a decorating blog and thought it would be fun to do it with the garments I have sewn in 2010.

1. McCall's 5717 I completed in January.
I wore this wonderful jacket yesterday and many people commented on it and one wanted to buy it!

2.  Simplicity 2443, this was made in March and then again in white fabric in April

3. Burda 11-2006 #109 in March again.  This was made from my oldest fabric piece.

4.  My favorite pattern ever Simplicity 4076 made in April with some ruffles added
5.  Simplicity 2369 in May
6. Jalie 2005 in September, my Anthropologie inspired top.

7.  Also in September, McCall's 6164

8.   In August, Jalie, 2919 cardigan.  I also made the vest from this pattern for Meredith.
9.  In November, Burda 12-2008 #113

10.  Recently completed, Hot Patterns Riveria Jacket.

Now if you would like to join in, here is a Linky Party to do just that:

New Camera

This picture was taken with my camera, given to me by hubby on Christmas morning.  Another Canon Rebel to replace my 8 year old rebel.  It is amazing and I played with it all Christmas afternoon, with a break to sled and play in the snow.

I have high hopes for much better pictures on the blog.  Hurray!

I have plans for sewing tomorrow morning then we are putting down new flooring in the basement family room, so all the furniture will be piled in my sewing room tomorrow night.  I am hoping it will only be 3 days and I can have my sewing room back.

Hot Patterns Riveria Jacket

I will write a review later at Pattern review and link it in this review but for now just a quick post with the pictures of my jacket, the Hot Patterns Riveria Jacket

First of all thanks to Gigi for her pictures and tutorials on this jacket, these were so helpful in constructing my jacket.

The fabric is a double knit, a bit on the lighter side but works fine for this jacket.

I was taking advantage of the last of this daylight on these short winter days, so you get a bit of shadows and some wrinkles.

I am going to make this again, probably in a bit beefier knit.

Now off to bake my last batch of cookies.

I Finished the Last Present for 2010

Two weekends ago, Paige (dd#1) helped me cook the twins' birthday dinner.  She was dressed so nicely, so I gave her Kaitlyn's apron to wear.  She thought it was great and that is all it took for me.  I made her one for Christmas.

My only change was to self-line the pockets.  The main fabric of this apron is one of my favorite prints in the quilt shop right now.

So my Christmas sewing is complete, hurray!

Baking and Christmas Music

Those two just go together in my house, probably makes my girls crazy, but oh, well.

Several cookies and candies were made here the last couple of days.  Once they are cool, I package them and put them in the freezer, saves me many calories!

This year we only used three cookie cutters for sugar cookies - a santa hat, sleigh and snowflake.  It made it so much simpler to decorate, two icing colors and three bags for decorating.  We baked the cookies last night and I decorated them this morning  before work.

Over at eighteen25 blog, they posted several recipes and I just finished making the pretzel hugs,  such a festive holiday candy.

Now back to wrapping, there are only 8 days left and we start with our first Christmas celebration tomorrow!

Jewelry Roll

I recently purchased this book for a nice range of gift ideas and the first one I tried was the jewelry roll.  Here is a scan from the book:
I have made three for gifts:
Here is the first one, for dd#2, matches her Sophia Bag

 The ring holder in use:
This one is for Meredith but she doesn't know it, helped me pick out the fabric.

This one is for my Aunt:

 All three rolled up:

PIllows for Presents

My girls have a wonderful couples (another grandma and grandpa of sorts), who we celebrate Christmas with one evening.  I try to think of a few things to make for her.  Pillows are the first gift I have made so far.  She loves dark jewel tones and I used the pillow pattern purchased from Oh Fransson titled Chopped Vegetables.  I really like how she uses a zipper on the back in place of an envelope back.

Here are the pillows:

Sophia Bag - 2nd edition

I made the Sophia bag (click for original blog post)  for myself back in November 2008 and dd#2 wanted one right away.  It took me 2 years to get to it but here it is.

The fabric is Oliver + S fabrics and it is her favorite colors.

This Sophia Bag is for her birthday, January 1st, so those of you who know her, don't tell her please, it is a surprise!

Vogue 8597

Description: MISSES' TOP: Close-fitting, pullover tops A, B, C have raglan sleeves and stitched hems. A: below elbow length sleeves. A, B: front extends to form cowl collar. B, C: full length sleeves. C: attached cowl collar

Instructions:  They were easy to follow and the design is so unique.  Take a look at the line drawing and the description for A &B - the drape at the back is part of the front pattern piece.  You sew the center back seam of the drape, sew the sleeves to the back.  Then you sew the front to the sleeves, connecting the back to the drape.  It is like a big half-circle, I had never sewn anything like that before.

Likes/dislikes:  close fitting cowl neck sweater is a like.  I also like the fact you can have darts in view C.  My only dislike is the way Vogue has you turn under the top of the drape and slipstitch this.  You have to position the drape just right so you do not see the edge of this.

Fabric:  My last piece of stretch rayon slub jersey from Fabric.com.  I bought several pieces at the last knit sale.  The only downside, this fabric is a bit thin and I need to wear a cami under the tops.

Conclusion:  Wonderful wardrobe builder of a pattern.  I am going to look for a great piece of fabric - lenghten View C and wear it with a pair of leggings.
