McCall's 8042 - Style Maker Fabrics' Rayon

The minute McCall's released this pattern, I knew I needed to make it for numerous reasons including the ruffled neckline.  Isn't it an amazing detail?

The pattern is McCall's 8042 also known as #MiaMcCalls - a loose-fitting, gathered drawstring neckline,  and view A has a sleeve ruffle, my make is View A.

The front slit is low and I wished I had studied the pattern envelope a bit more..... take a look

That is a tiny part of the reason I kept the neckline tighter but the big reason, I just like the neckline that way.

At Sew Expo, I purchased this beautiful Print Mix Spring Floral Rayon Challis from Style Maker Fabrics. Michelle had it made up as the Wilder Gown by Friday Pattern Co made up in this challis and it was beautiful.  In fact, this McCall's pattern and the Wilder Gown look very similar, just check out the neckline.

The drawstring does help to hide the low opening, so that is a good thing!

Initially, I was going to make the long sleeve, I am so happy I didn't do that, the sleeve ruffles are perfect for the fabric and a spring look.

Here is the back

Once you get past the neckline and the gathers, the rest of blouse goes together quickly.  I went with the finished measurements and made the small.  The small is just right in the shoulders, bust, waist but then really tapers in at the hips. I shortened mine and then the hips were just fine.

Go and get this pattern, you will love it.  I am already planning several more.  I think we can tell from the smiles on the faces of the sewist how much they like a garment.

This smile says it all and I tried the partial tuck, like that look, too.

  1. I bought that fabric at Sew Expo too. Haven't made it up yet, but to be honest, I love the fabric so much that I'm happy to have it whether it ever gets sewn or not!

  2. This is such a stylish top - different and fun! I've admired this fabric and wondered how to pair it with a pattern. As usual, Lori, you made the perfect pairing! Karen

  3. you could wear the slit in the back, having the tie in the front.
you could hand stitch the slit closed a bit.
    the fabric is beautiful.
