Dixie Woven Top with Rick Rack

I had a top saved on my computer that I saw this spring, rick rack on the top and it was just so cute.

I put this fabric and rick rack on my Insta-stories with three patterns and I asked for help to pick a good pattern.  This Style Arc Dixie Woven top won and I loved making it.  At first I wanted to use red and navy rick-rack but the red was just too much, so navy won.

I went with the rick rack on the front yoke and the back yoke, which has a wonderful curve and drape.  While we are talking about the back, don't do the opening in the back.  The shirt will go off and on without the opening.

I took the top in just a bit on the sides, the hardest thing about Style Arc, ordering just one size.  To attach the rick rack, I used navy thread and stitched right down the center of the trim.

The fabric is from Style Maker Fabrics and I bought it this spring, it is fabulous fabric.  Washed beautifully, sewed and pressed beautifully.

Let's talk about that front opening.  It is a bit tricky.  I marked the opening width on a piece of paper, pinned each side of the yoke to hold it in place.  I attached the bias trim and the fabric opening stayed just right because of the paper.  I did turn the bias binding to the inside, did some hand stitching to keep it in place and then edgestitched on the bias binding to finish it off.

Sometimes it takes some time to get to all my ideas but I am so happy I got to this one.  I love the rick rack trim on this blouse style.  I just adds a bit of fun to the top.  I sat down to get some different photos and Junior came right up for some attention.  He is so funny at times he almost pushes me around he gets so excited!

  1. The navy ric rac was a great choice. It adds just the right amount of whimsy and I love that it follows the lovely sweep of the yoke.

  3. Very cute and seems very “you”. I like to purchase Style Arc Patterns on Amazon so more than one size is included. BTW, love you hair that length and style.

    1. It is me, thanks, I appreciate that. I will have to look at the multi-size patterns on Amazon. I like my hair this length, too, not sure why I resisted this length for so long. Time for cut/color tomorrow and I am thinking bangs. We will see what the stylist thinks.
