Style Maker Fabrics' Expo Sewing - Morris Blazer and Hadley Top

Grainline Studio's Morris Blazer made with Style Maker Fabrics' Watercolor Crepe Knit with Hadley top in blue modal shirting

Sewing fun is new clothes and helping a friend and that is what these two pieces are.

In February, Michelle of Style Maker Fabrics asked a group of us to help with some Sewing Expo sewing.  I jumped at the chance and went with this beautiful combination which Michelle had selected.

The first garment is Grainline Studio's Morris Blazer, which I have made many times for myself and one of my daughters.  With this previous sewing knowledge, sewing this blazer was quick and easy.

One thing I do like to do, is this tutorial for the facings, a clean finish facing. I love the look of the facings with this finish and it looks great, especially when you jacket blows open.

The fabric for my Morris is Watercolor Floral Knit Crepe (blue) and it comes in purple and coral

Here is a close up of the garments.

The second part of my outfit is Grainline Studio's Hadley Top in a Sueded Modal Blend Shirting.  This Shirting does come in  so many beautiful colors.

Now in a Grainline Studio pattern, I usually make a size 6, well, really almost always.  I did make this pattern in the 6 and it is a bit tight in the bust but really tight in the armholes, they are high and very tight.  Uncomfortable tight.  I have passed then onto my daughter, Meredith.  I will order more of this fabric and make myself another one.  The Hadley has a great center front seam detail, bust darts, neckline options and sleeve options.

I went with sleeveless version and round neck.  I did lower the neckline and probably will lower it a bit more next time.

I loved helping out a sewing friend and thanks, Michelle for asking me to be a part of the Expo.  It was fun to see the photos from the Expo and see my garments there.  The Expo at Puyallup, WA is on my bucket list to do and read all about this year's expo on Style Maker Fabrics' blog

I did make a small purse for the Expo and will put that up on another blog post.

Happy sewing to you all.

  2. I worked the Stylemakers booth at the expo. That blazer was one of the big hits and sold out the morris pattern and all the fabric Michele had! She was selling the pattern on back order and was telling people to check the website when she would get more fabric in. It was the most popular color way although the coral and gray came in a close second. It is beautiful on you and thanks for the tips. I am sewing my own Hadley and Morris soon.

  6. The Morris Blazer and Hadley Top were two of the unique patterns available at Style Maker Fabrics' Expo Sewing event. With its stylish silhouette, the Morris Blazer turned out to be a useful addition to my closet. Even for a relative newbie, the sewing procedure was pleasurable because of the comprehensive directions. In contrast, the Hadley Top featured a sleek and attractive design. The final product was enhanced by the choice of fabric from Style Maker Fabrics, which provided the ideal balance of comfort and style. All in all, Expo Sewing offered a pleasurable encounter, fusing superb fabrics with patterns to create a satisfying sewing project.
