Vogue 9275 - Top in Stretch Velvet

Vogue 9275 top in Style Maker Fabrics' Stretch Velvet

Meg at McCall's Patterns put this top in my head with this Instagram post
and I went straight to Style Maker Fabrics and ordered some stretch velvet!

The pattern is Vogue 9275, which I just made the jacket and shared on the Style Maker Fabrics Fall Tour and love.  The top has been on my radar to make but jumped to the top of the list when Meg posted on IG about the pattern and stretch velvet. Oh, yes, I have to have one.

I ordered the Espresso Stretch Velvet and let me tell you this is great stuff.  I think it looks amazing in the photos but even better in person

The pattern is quick to make but be warned it runs very big and the armholes are low.  I made a small for this top and could make an XS, which I might do for another one.

The velvet was pretty easy to sew with one exception.  I did have to baste the hem into place, it just kept shifting.  In fact, I had to unsew my first attempt at the hem.  I pulled out the needle and thread and hand basted right after using the old seam ripper.  I did not put in the drawstring as per the pattern.  Two reasons - 1.  I wanted to wear a necklace and 2. I just have a hard time finding the drawstring and then in the right color.

The velvet drapes so beautifully and I really think this is a gorgeous fall garment.  Also, a great fall statement piece.

If you are short on time but want a dramatic top, get this pattern and some stretch velvet.  You  will not be disappointed!

I think it will look great under my patchwork jacquard jacket, too.

It is my birthday today and I think I am going to treat myself with a fabric order.  I do want more velvet for another top, so help me with the color choice.

  4. Happy birthday and I'd go with the Emerald. It will look good with your coloring. Although I don't see you in green to often.
