Hot Patterns Fast & Fabulous Blouse Back T

Another one of the Blouse Back T but this time for me!  If you remember the first one was for Meredith

.
This is a cute shirt but I love it on Meredith so much more than on me.
I used the same size as Meredith but probably should of made a FBA cheater and that would help the folds in the front.

I took more about an inch from the back of this top but it is still very long.  One thing,  I love this fabric on the back, it is from Girl Charlee    Isn't it nice Junior participated in the back view?

Here you can see the proportion on the side view, blurry but you get the idea.

I did find the arms with the non stretch fabric turned out tighter than Meredith's version.  If I make it again, I will add 1/2" to the arm band  I think I will shorten the back a least 2" and not have such a high -low hem.

One other change is I made the neckline ribbing 2" wide instead of the Hot Patterns recommended width.  I needed to shorten the length of the neckline, too.  You can see my bra strap here and the neckline just didn't lay quite right.

Overall it is a nice top, the fabric from Girl Charlee is wonderful and that is a plus.

I am not sure how much I will wear this top, might just hand it onto Meredith if she wants it

I made this a couple of weeks ago and finally got around to blogging it.  I did need some sort of winner in the sewing room.  I have tossed a couple of dresses mid-way and a top that I totally cut the front and back wrong, nothing would match up.  My sewing machine is in for repairs right now and I am using a borrowed one for now.  At this point, with the new-to-me machine and my track record of late, I am going to work on a quilt that Erin wants for her bedroom.  That might be the safest thing to do until I get my machine back.

Tomorrow I will have another okay garment to share.  How has your sewing been going lately?

  2. Cute top. This is a pretty blue on you and it combines really well with the stripes. I've been working on a dress that's taking way longer than expected because the armscye is literally 4" too big on me. Pretty disappointing, and I decided to not cut up precious fabric for it. It's always a bit of a blow when you get excited about something that is only ok in the end. Enjoy your quilting--you make such gorgeous ones!

  4. That's really pretty. I've got this pattern but haven't been able to decide on a combination yet. Thanks for your tips on the adjustments that you made. My main machine is in the shop to, but I've got some trusty back-ups to keep me going.

    1. Nice to have back-up machines, good luck on your top. The fabric for this one is the hardest part.

  6. I do like the solid front with the stripes, but it is disappointing when a project doesn't turn out the way you envision it - certainly can relate to that. I have a few TNT patterns lined up for cutting out this evening to get me back in the sewing room. Good luck with your quilt!

    1. Thanks, Joen, TNT patterns are a great idea. I ordered fabric this morning for a maxi I am excited about making.

  7. I know what you mean about sewing room frustrations--maybe try a TNT to get back in the saddle? (or maybe that is what quilting is for you?) There was a point a year or so ago where I thought about giving up sewing completely, ughh!

  8. I like your fabric choices but agree about the length. I made one myself in a black and black & white combo. At first I couldn't figure out why I didn't like it on me. I took 2" out of the neck band. And then I realized it was the length. Am going to shorten it.

    1. Thanks for the information, I don't feel like I have big arms either. I am going to shorten this one by several inches and then see if it is mine or heading to Meredith.

  9. It's really cute! I'm relieved to find that you have to modify the dickens out of Hot Pattern patterns...the concepts are great, but every one I sew is a major measure and redraft experience. I'm with you on girl charlee - love their fabrics.

    1. Coco, that is probably the last HP I purchase, it is too much fiddling to get it right. I love the drawings and the concepts, too.

  10. Your choice of fabric is beautiful, and you did a nice job. I made this last summer and had the same opinion - loved the fabric but I rarely wear it. The arm bands were really tight for me - and I don't think I have fat arms. I am sure Meridith will be thrilled to get it!

    1. Thanks, I love the fabric for sure, it is so wonderful. Happy to hear you had some of the same fitting issues.

    2. I meant that as nice to know not only me in the fitting issues.

  11. This t-shirt is so cute! It turned out perfectly, and hopefully makes up for the projects less pleasing. Blame it on your sewing machine being at the shop. When she's back, all will be well!

  12. I like it on you. I don't have this pattern but each time I see it sewn up I'm tempted. I've had a few sewing misses lately too...

This is so fun! I love it! I'm just getting back in the saddle again after a month straight of sewing horrors! A couple of days of cutting out plain, square quilt blocks seemed to get me calm enough to try again, and now I feel like I'm back to normal. But it seems like sewing disasters always come in clusters!
