Red Maritime Shorts - also known as the Picnic Shorts

After making the houndstooth Maritime shorts, , I knew I needed another pair soon.  I had some fabric left from these Burda pants and it was in my red theme of late.

I did make one change from the first time, I cut a straight 6, and the fit is just right.  Oh, yes, another change, the pattern has an upper pattern piece for the pocket which you curve piece to the pocket bag.  I didn't want to have two pieces for this section, so I taped the pattern together to have one pattern piece.

Also, for future pairs another change in the pattern.  Grainline Studio, has the fly as a separate piece.  I taped the fly to the front pattern piece for what I consider a traditional front fly pattern piece.

These are perfect shorts for the summer and you will be seeing this pattern a couple more times.
In the pictures there looks to be pulling in the front.  I think that means too small.  The shorts might have been a bit tight at first but the fabric stretches and I get so tired of the too big shorts after an hour of wearing.  I find the fit just right.  Analyzing those wrinkles, it could make you change the pattern all the time.

Seems like my I always have my hand on my hip in one picture!

The last picture is why I call them my picnic shorts, gingham and fruit quilting cotton for facings.  The combination just reminded me of a picnic.

I have still haven't cut out my last red garment.  I have been slowly working on this quilt, Tula PInk's City Sampler of 100 blocks.  In fact, I started it last June.  With only 30 blocks left to construct, I decided just to finish those blocks this week.  I have 10 left to go and will save the sashing and assembling for a sewing night at my local quilt shop.  I will be finished with blocks by the weekend and back to the garments.

I have been on a fabric buying kick of late, both garment and quilting.  Oh my, I actually am building a stash.  It  is a different feeling, I made a list of garments and quilts from this fabric.  The list was quite long and I know I will not get to every garment this summer season but the planning is quite fun.

Thanks so much for the kind comments on my last post about my son-in-law, I really appreciate it.

  2. I just did the same to my jeans sloper I made with SFD. I added the fly permanently. It's easier to cut off than add on if needed.

These look great on you. Cute!

    1. A quilt does make a difference brightening up a room. I have been enjoying the outside and summer activities. I have been finding time to sew but really have not been current on blogs and posting. I guess something has to give!

  9. HOW HACKER STEVE HELPED TO RECOVER MY LOST CRYPTO
I lost a lot of money in a month ago when I saw the opportunity to invest in cryptocurrency; and this is why I suggest to everyone out there to seek more knowledge before investing in cryptocurrency as there are people out there who seize this opportunity to defraud victims of their hard-earned money through cryptocurrency investment. I was lucky enough to do my research and found out I have been coined $892,000 worth of Bitcoin & Ethereum after falling victim. It was not long after I discovered the services of hackersteve911, who took some information from me to investigate and recover all the money that I lost in this scam. I’m truly grateful for the services of hackersteve911, the best cryptocurrency recovery out there. If you need his services and his team of experts to help you recover your cryptocurrency without any delay, you should contact him via: hackersteve911@gmail.com
