Hot Patterns Sunshine Top

The Sunshine Top has been around  and many sewing bloggers have made some fabulous tops from this pattern

I finally purchased it when the pdf option became available.  I seem to be doing that quite a bit lately, those pdf patterns are so convenient to order. What do you think?  I know the taping is a chore but not to leave my house or office and I can have a new pattern is so amazing.

Check out Indie Sew for some great independent sewing patterns or Perfect Pattern Parcel for a great deal and a way to give back
Then came this  cute white dots on navy jersey from Girl Charlee

and it seemed like a perfect fabric - pattern match.

This top is simple to sew and has some wonderful design features.
  • The nice front band
  • gathers in the front
  • a great drafted sleeve and sleeve length.
  • a quick sew, which is great when it is summer and I just want to be outside
I did make a few mistakes in construction, sewed the back neckband to the front, oops, that didn't work very well.  Next I really thought I would add the bottom band, this entails cutting the top off to add the band.  Big, big mistake, I did not like the band at all.  Off the band came and the top is a bit short because of my silly decision.  I don't mind it too much but the extra 1-1/2" would of been nice.

I does look great with my RTW red jacket.

Next time I make it I will raise the neckline and will not add the band, extra length is a good thing!

I do see why this top is such a hit, I love it and can't wait to make another one.

One final picture, as my little friend wants to play!

  6. How funny - I ordered that same material to make Kwik Sew 3593,view B which is almost exactly the same design. Now I know it's a good match of pattern to fabric. Thanks, Lori!

  10. I like the length. I think that is what keeps the top from looking like a maternity top. It's all about proportion. Not to mention the length works perfectly with your red jacket :)

    1. Thanks, Jacqui, I appreciate your comment and perspective. The shorter length does keep that maternity look away.
