Home Alone

Twins are at a Student Council event
17 year old daughter is at a friend's house
College girl is, well at college
Hubby is still at work.

Me home alone, thought it sounded great at 5 pm, but now it stinks (and I have 2 more hours of quiet). Too quiet, I have watched one movie, fast-forwarded through the beginning and end of another. Put up a review at Pattern Review, traced an Ottobre jeans pattern for me, and decided when I am an empty nester , I might have to work at Wal-Mart or something like that in the evenings. Especially when hubby is working late. Too quiet, too quiet.

Be careful what you wish for, it might come true? I did wish for that when my 4 were little and it was never, ever quiet.

  2. I have an only child who is 8 1/2 years old. Now that he is old enough to go over to a friend's house after school... I find that I miss his companionship the hour or so before dinner is served. Then dinner is on the table and the three of us are together for the rest of the evening. It's funny though... wen bedtime comes... I'm ready for a break!

    Hi Lori,
I often say I would go back in time in a flash to those days where I had to pee with a child sitting on my lap many days LOL! TMI but I bet you can relate. And I had 4 girls also, so I know the noise they create. It's a different noise from boys as I've learned to my surprise. I raised my kids in that era that believed that you shouldn't impose gender bias'es on your kids. Boys and girls if raised the same would grow up to have broader options and a better sense of self. Well I learned to my surprise that they are NOT the same from the day they are born, even as infants boys are waaayyyy different from girls. It still amazes me and I recall seeing a documentary once where they showed an experiment with 6 week old babies. I'll tell you about it if you want to hear it - send me an email off list.
So my point is (and there is a point LOL) YES you will wish those noisy hectic days back in a minute some day, even though you enjoy the grandchildren, you'd still go back to the noisy, demanding but so rewarding days of intense parenthood. I guarantee it!!

Since my one and only is away at college, I've come to relish my peace and quiet. Some days, the only other person that I might see is my DH when he gets home from work in the evenings. However, I'm able to purge some of our clutter and sew to my heart's content. I still like sewing classes for the socialization. Your jacket looks really cute. Maybe some under the collar snaps instead of buttons. You really did a nice job matching your plaid. The new Threads magazine (DEC-JAN) has a great article on matching plaids. Perhaps yours was an uneven plaid. Great work though. Happy Stitching!
