Eight is a relaxed-fit, drapey, sleeveless tee with a round neck and shoulder pads. That’s right, shoulder pads – an eighties trend with a fresh twist. We’ve added structure to the shoulder to create a powerful, but soft silhouette as a subtle nod to the eighties. But don’t worry, there’s no need to be searching the shops for ready-made shoulder pads, where’s the fun in that? For this pattern, you get to make the shoulder pads yourself, wooo hooo!!!
Never thought you’d be wearing shoulder pads again (or ever)? Well, don’t knock it till you try it. You’ll be surprised at how great the Eight Tee will look on you and what’s more how unbelievably fierce you will feel. But don’t worry, if you really don’t want to go down that road, just leave the shoulder pads out, it may not be as powerful but it will still be beautiful.
I made my own shoulder pads and did all the hemming with my sewing machine. I usually do it with my coverstitch but with the sleeve finish it was easier to do on my machine. Also, matching the seawood was easier with regular spools of thread.
I think each one of these took about an hour between cutting and finishing.
