This little top is just what I needed to start the fall sewing. It is cute, fun, quick and fitted.
This is the Forget-Me-Not Pattern and this is the Clementine Top (and dress).
The description
Clementine is a top and dress pattern designed for knit fabrics. It features princess seams which follow the curves of the body. The top version offers a more tailored look than a basic t-shirt, while still being incredibly comfy and easy to wear. The dress version finishes just above the knee, and flares out below the waist into a swishy, full skirt. It also features the option of in-seam pockets. Choose from a versatile scoop neck, or a stylish high cowl neck for a subtle touch of elegance. The sleeve also comes in three different lengths. Despite its extra details, Clementine is still an easy sew and a great introduction to working with knit fabrics. Sew Clementine for everyday style, or break out your fancy fabric for a stylish evening look!
I went for everyday style with this look, chinos, brown sneakers and fun earrings. I love how this top fits, it does have negative ease. I went with a 38 and meant to cut a 40 but oops, went on the wrong line. It all turned out okay, the 38 was great and I will go down a size at the hips. It just flares out a bit.
More information from the Forget-Me-Not Patterns on sizing
Available in sizes 28 - 48.
Forget-me-not patterns are designed around an averagely curvy figure with a B-cup bust and a height of 5’6” (168cm). Clementine is designed with negative ease in the bust for a fitted silhouette.
I added my normal 1 inch to length and to the sleeves, which are the long sleeve version. I do like the more fitted look, many of my t-shirts and knit tops are a bit more relaxed. There is a cute cowl neck version with this pattern, too.
The princess seams dress up the t-shirt style plus many opportunities for fitting. Take a look at the Forget-Me-Not Blog for more fitting information - grading between sizes and FBA on princess seams for a couple of examples
My fabrics is Sewing Studio's Bamboo French Terry - this fabric is so amazing, soft and a dream to sew. I used my serger for construction and my coverstitch for the hems. I did not have any purple thread that would work, so I hemmed in black. You really can't see it.
I thought this shirt might be great layered so I tried it out, yes, I love it layered. Plus it dresses it up even more.
I am still trying to see if I am hat person, wearing one purchased from the first of the year. I even tried one on today at a cute boutique,a quick trip there on my lunch break. I just can't decide - I do want to be a hat person!
I was given this pattern by Forget-Me-Not Patterns for a finished garment and blog post. The opinions are my own. I do think I might try her FBA adjustment on my next one.
What a lovely t-shirt! (I like that hat on you.)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Irene and I will try to wear the hat out on the "town"!
DeleteNice tee! Beautiful color on you! Go for the hat!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelly, I will go for the hat. I love the color, too
DeleteYour "long sleeve" version looks like bracelet-length sleeves to me and what an elegant look! It's amazing the difference in effect an inch or two can make.
ReplyDeleteThey are long sleeves, I just pulled them up, it was 95 when I took the photos and I was trying to cool off! Thanks
