Butterick 5997 is one of those sleeper patterns, the front of the envelope isn't going to sell many patterns but let me tell you this is a good one!
I made this pattern once before, July 2015 and I do believe the fabric might have been from my first ever Style Maker Fabrics! I love this blouse and wear it quite a bit but never made it again. In fact, I am not sure what happened to the pattern. I think it might have gotten lost during our remodel.
Thanks to Emily Hallman and her Fancy Fridays, I was reminded of this pattern and ordered it again.
My fabric is linen, it doesn't look like a traditional linen pattern. The plaid and the colors remind me of fall, so I am wearing it now. Here is the fabric at Mood Fabrics.
My changes:
- The cuffs and pockets are cut on the diagonal
- I cut the under collar on the bias and added a center seam.
- I shortened the top, the tunic length doesn't look right on me
- I should of lengthened the sleeves, so I used a smaller seam allowance on the cuffs. That helped.
Here is the under collar
The bias
I love my new top and here is the back
Heading out for the day, I put on a long (purchased) sweater with my new JCrew jeans!
One more thing, like the sleeve treatment on my Gingham mash-up Archer
I used some chambray for the seam finish, sorry for the poor photo quality.
