Blackwood Cardigan in Style Maker's Modal Jersey

Blackwood Cardigan by Helen't Closet in modal jersey from Style Maker Fabrics

It took me a couple of weeks to purchase this pattern but I am so happy I did.  This is a style I love and the big pockets are a plus.

The pattern is Blackwood Cardigan by Helen's Closet and it is so stylish and fun.  For the size, I went between between and medium and large. The only change and that was due to fabric shortage.  I had to seam at the center back.

The fabric is a a peach modal jersey from Style Maker Fabrics and Michelle has several more colors.  The only hard part of the sewing was the pockets, my jersey was very slippery.  I tried some tissue paper on the wrong side, it helped a bit but still they aren't stitched on perfectly.

While wearing my cardigan on Sunday, I think I will cut the pocket larger and have the bottom sewn in with the bottom band and the sides of the pocket sewn in with the front band and side seam.  I am only going to do this on very stretchy fabric but will prevent the issues I had on this one.

  1. So pretty! spring :-) new approach to the pocket should work. I've sewn them into the side seam quite often on jersey, including them in the hem should really cement them! the sizing - I've no idea what your big 4 size is, do you find the sleeves a little snug? thks!

  2. Looks very cozy, and I love the color for spring. I think your pocket idea is a great one. Going to file that idea away for my own use. Thanks!

  3. I lined one of my sweaters pockets with washed quilters cotton and then sewed it to sweater. It worked really well. I cut the cotton lining like an eighth of an inch smaller on width and like an inch shorter at top so it wouldn't show.
