Sewing for Daughter

Kaitlyn from her wedding August 1, 2015
I have a sewing mission and I have accepted it.  Kaitlyn was talking about what I have been making and said she liked several things.  Well, I volunteered to make her some thing.s
Kaitlyn is a senior in college majoring in Secondary Math Education.  This means observing this semester and student teaching next semester.  Time for a transition from college student wardrobe to professional wardrobe.
I have been working on some garments  for her, some requested some my idea.
First up is the Lou Box Top, which she liked mine.  So I have made her three so far
one from this Tribal Crepe de Chine

and two more are finished from a Cotton and Steel floral and a rayon from Imagine Gnats.

Then I was looking for other ideas and found this one (which I remember from Instagram)
and knew I wanted to make the Lou Box Top as a dress.  I didn't widen Kaitlyn's dress as much as much as the stripe dress, Kaitlyn is like me, straighter figure and likes a slimmer dress.  I used this denim tencel and it has the perfect drape for the dress.

Some other things she asked for a couple of Morris Blazers.  I am using a red ponte and this

Kaitlyn likes to wear dresses and loved this dobby jacquard

I am going with Kwik Sew 4154, it was a dress with sleeves (per Katilyn's request) and no princess seams (per my request).  I didn't want to match all those chevrons.
Kaitlyn liked this Indiesew fabric rayon

And I thought this would be cute, Butterick 6378, just no elastic waist.

Finally, a Grainline Archer from a moss green sunwashed chambray

I did tell Kaitlyn, I would love to sew for her but she will be modeling the new garments for the blog!  Now I better get to sewing.

Oh, yes, one more thing, fitting Kaitlyn will be easy to fit.  She might live an hour away but I have her identical twin here at home, so Meredith will be her stand in!

  6. I'm really looking forward to seeing each of the pieces - but especially the Kwik Sew dress. It's a great looking pattern: classic but 'with interest'. Thanks so much for sharing your makes!

  7. Your a good mother. My daughter is making a similar transition from law student to lawyer - I gave her $600 for two suits! The ultimate selfish seamstress.
