Lou Box Top Three Fabrics

Lou Box Top from Indiesew sewn into three tops.

As I mentioned in my previous post, my sewing has been for Kaitlyn.  I have been working right along and went to her house Monday morning for a photography session

Kaitlyn and Jake have a beautiful row of pine trees in their backyard and I knew this would be just the spot for some great pictures.  The only thing we didn't factor in was freshly cut grass and the morning dew.  Oops, we did some tracking in of grass.

We took pictures of five garments, and I am just going to post them in the order of construction.  Today will start with three of the  Lou Box Top.  It is a top that looks great on its own and will also be nice layered with a cardigan for cooler temps.

The first one is a floral fabric from Cotton and Steel, which I found at a quilt shop but liked the drape and the feel.  In fact, I think this is Kaitlyn's favorite of the three.  It does look very youthful.

The cotton does hang away from the body but makes a very cute top.  On all three tops, I used the scoop neckline but raised it by one inch.  The bottom of the front and back uses the curved hem pattern piece,  and I added one inch to the length of the top.

The second top is a Mood Fabrics' Tribal Crepe de Chine .  This fabric drapes nicely but still has a bit of stiffness to it, probably the 100% polyester.  I liked the fabric for the design and the price - $5.99 a yard!

And the back view of the top, which has a center back seam, unless you make it from a knit and then no center back seam.

I was having so much fun making these, I went into my stash and pulled out a rayon challis from Imagine Gnats  .  This time I used the front curved hem for both the front and back, so no high-low look on this time.  This fabric has the best drape and really looks great in the top.

  1. Great job. Was it a coincidence they're all in the same color family? I choose to do this because it makes mix and matching so easy - everything goes with everything. Lucky daughter!
