Butterick 6219 - Maxi Skirt

Butterick 6219 rayon jersey stripe maxi - fabric from Mood Fabrics

Stripes, I have always loved you!  I just had to use this beautiful stripe for this maxi skirt.
The pattern is Butterick 6219 and here is the line drawing - mine is View A

I needed a quick sew, as I only made 2 garments in June.  It was a busy month, always something to clean up after work for the remodel.  Then a three day work conference and the best part a family week long vacation with our entire family.  The 4 daughters, their husbands/significant others and the little guys, let me tell you, it was so fun.  With all that going on, I needed something to get the sewing mojo flowing and this fabric was just the item.  It is Mood Fabrics' striped rayon jersey and it is fabulous.

View A had the fun lines with the yoke and the A-line skirt.  Since the rayon jersey was a 4-way stretch, I went with vertical stripes for the yoke.  I didn't want the stripes going around my hips.

I added an inch to the yoke and an inch to the top of the skirt for extra length.  I am 5'8" and this was more than enough, I am wearing wedges and I hemmed it an inch.

Shortage of fabric was an issue, the back skirt has a seam on center back and the waistband has a seam at center both front back.

Looking at the pictures, I would probably select another portion of the fabric for the waistband.  That black stripe just is a bit too much for my straight waist.  I won't let this bother me too much as I love this fun skirt.

I am so happy with the stripe matching at the side seams.  My tip, I offset the seam just a hair so I can see the stripes are lining up as I serge the seam.

One last photo of my flowers, I came home to all the perennials in full bloom, mostly due to wonderful rains while we were gone.

This skirt helped jump start the sewing again, which I planned to have about 4 hours to myself last night to sew.  Well, one hour happened and I have a knit shirt that needs hems.  I plan on a pair of black shorts, hopefully tonight.
