Marmalade Jacket

Mood Fabrics' twil fabric used to create Marmalade Jacket
Yes, the grass is turning green and the daffodils are blooming and  the bushes are budding.  Spring is here and it is early!   I am so happy for the temperatures to warm up but first it is cool and wet spring days and that means a new jacket is needed.  I seem to associate spring with pastel colors especially with Easter less than two weeks away.  When I bought this Mood Fabrics’ Mellow Rose Cotton Stretch Twill, I knew  it was going to be a spring jacket, I just wasn’t sure of the pattern.  Sorry, this soft pink is sold out but there is a nice assortment of Cotton Stretch Twillson the Mood Fabrics’ website, I am sure you can find a favorite color and/or pattern.

I wanted a jacket with a different look, not a traditional blazer, so I went with Marmalade Jacket by Waffle Patterns.  The draw was the gathered front, interesting sleeve detail, hem band and collar. The only alteration is adding one inch to the sleeves and body of the jacket, making it a perfect length all around

I found this jacket amazing to construct, the attention to detail was evident throughout the pattern.  My stretch twill was easy to sew and always a dream to press.

I used Drtiz  pearl snaps for the sleeve and for the front.  The Marmalade jacket shows hidden snaps but I really wanted to show off these cute pearl snaps.  I love the look of the soft pearl on the pastel pink and it adds interest to the front of the jacket.

For the lining, I used Rag and Bone striped Crepe de Chine, it is vanilla and cream and perfect for the jacket.  The construction is interesting for this jacket, you complete the outside of the jacket but do not add the hem band or collar.  Once the lining is completed, the sleeves are bagged, loved this method and the first time I have used it but won’t be my last.  After hemming the sleeves, the lining is basted to the neckline, the front and bottom.

With the lining basted in place, the front band is folded in half topstitched in place, sew on hem band and the collar.  A quick and easy lined jacket with very minimal handstitching!

My new pink jacket will be well-loved addition to my spring wardrobe and made of the cotton twill it will be the perfect weight as the temperatures warm up.

Disclosure - I receive a monthly fabric allowance from Mood Fabrics to make a garment.  These garment are blogged at Mood Sewing Network first and then I will blog here about this garment.
I was provided the pattern as a part of the Indiesew blogger team  but the opinions are all mine. The fabric from Indiesew was purchased by me.
