Vogue 8805 - Red

Red is the color of the day.  Why?  Well, you all have said, Lori, you look great in red and now all I want to sew is red fabric!  I went with a quick knit dress from red ponte (Fabric Mart I believe)

This is a great dress pattern, fun lines and great possibilities.  I went with the one-color basic dress but it is red!

Red ponte knit for cute summer dress using Vogue 8805

The pattern is Vogue 8805. a pullover dress with a back neck slit and the possibility for some great color blocking if you want.   One of the best things about this pattern is the A, B. C and D cup options.

The red is hard to see the sections of the front and back.  Upper, middle and bottom sections to be specific and here is a bit of the upper front.

I started with a size 12 but ended up down to a 10 everywhere but the bottom section.  I did use the C cup but in the future going with a B cup, I am in between these two and the C is a tad big for me.

Some of the changes included
1.  Lowering the bust dart
2.  Used self-fabric to bind the upper edge.
3.  Changed the construction order
4.  Used my coverstitch to topstitch each section

The Vogue instructions have you sew the side seams in each section and then attach them together in the round.  I sewed the front and back sections separately and used my coverstitch for  the sections.  After the shoulder seams were stitched, I matched the side seams carefully and sewed the side seams.  I wanted to do it this way for a couple of reasons -
it was much easier to coverstitch these flat and with the side seams stitched all in one section, let me do some fitting adjustments on this ponte knit dress.

For summer trips, I needed a fun dress for some  events and a knit dress is just so easy to pack.  Now just think of the possibilities of this Very Easy Vogue pattern.  Three different fabrics for the three sections or a stripe for the top section and then solid for the bottom two sections or how about leaving off the bottom section and having a tunic?

This post is full of photos, Meredith took some great pictures and we went around our country neighborhood for some different backdrops.  She was a good sport driving all around and I have to share one of my favorite photos, I love the gravel road and the old trees

Yes, there is another red garment in the works!

If you were making this dress would you make a solid or color blocked?

  4. Red definitely is your color! The dress looks terrific. I like the solid color with coverstitching. Yet, I see that color blocking would look great with this dress. Meredith did a super job of taking photos.

  5. Looks great! I think I would start with a solid version then color block a version once I adjusted the fit. As you said ponte knit is great for packing and this style looks great for dressing up to down as needed. Nice basic dress - may add this to my pattern list.

  8. My last make was a ponte knit dress, what a lovely fabric! I adore that vogue pattern. I have seen it made up in color blocks, but your red dress takes the cake! I'm a big fan of red too. Your photos are really pleasing to the eye.

    1. Thanks, Patty, it will be a fun to where. I do love where I live except for August!! I need the trees to leave out, hard to take photos in all this direct, harsh light.
