April Showers- Lap Quilt

This Monday and next Monday will be quilt showcase days, then I will be all caught up.  I am a fan of Bonnie and Camille's fabric.  I think it really is the colors that draw me in but whatever it is, I cannot resist each new collection.  I used two jelly rolls for this quilt, and was inspired by a snowball quilt idea.

I started out by removing some the fabrics I didn't love, the ones with umbrellas were just a bit 1930's for me and the red gingham.  I liked the ginghams but the red just was too country I think, plus it would of put me one too many on the reds.

My next step was to separate into color groups and sew 5 strips of each color together.  Once I had all the strips sewn together, I went with 10" to cut the strips into blocks.  Why 10"?  I wanted larger blocks and then that seemed like the least amount of waste in a 42" strip.

I cut out several 2-1/2" white squares and drew a diagonal line in the square (corner to corner).  The squares were attached in all 4 corners of the 10" strip block.  I pinned in place, stitched down the line, cut off the excess, turned an pressed.  This was down for all the blocks.

I laid the blocks out on the floor and decided to go with a diagonal color placement. I am quite pleased with the new lap quilt.  This would be perfect using one jelly roll and making a baby quilt.

Jelly Rolls are collections of 2 1/2" x 44" strips of fabric produced by Moda Fabrics. Jelly Rolls typically include 40 strips of fabric but can vary. Other fabric manufacturers offer similar products such as Pops, Twice the Charm, Rolls, Roll Ups and Rolie Polies - you get the picture!
