Deer and Doe Airelle Blouse using Mood Fabrics' Voile

I started with this pattern

Then I used two Mood Fabrics' silk cotton fabrics, the  first an Italian Beige Rose-Print Silk-Cotton

and combine it with Oscar de la Renta Checked Silk-Cotton Voile

and you get a very pretty new blouse

Of course, I made some changes, first I just couldn't figure out how this darted top would pull down over my head! The recommended fabric is lightweight cottons, voiles and linens.

My solution an invisible zipper in the left side.  I have seen RTW tops with this feature and thought it would work for my needs.  The top of the zipper is right under the arm and the bottom is 2" above the hem.  This does make it much easier to get on and off.

French seams are used for the finish and a rolled hem for the bottom of the blouse.

Both fabrics are pretty transparent and I thought about underlining the entire top.  I draped the floral over my arm and with the beige color and my skin tones it really didn't need an underlining.  I am wearing a beige camisole with this top.

In this picture you do see some wrinkle in the upper arm area.  This is just from pulling on the top, a bit of width in the shoulder might help correct this.  An invisible zipper in the back would be another idea but collar would need to be reworked as it is a solid piece in the back.

The collar and cuffs (which do not show up in the picture) were interfaced.  For the interfacing I used an ivory pro-sheer from Fashion Sewing Supply.  It was the perfect weight for these pieces plus the ivory maintained the true color of the plaid.

Make sure you mark the 5/8" overlap of the center front of the collar to get  nice point at the v-neck.

I think Junior thinks this blouse is a winner.  I am thrilled with the results and just love this floral fabric, the colors are gorgeous.  Another plus it looks great with my dark corduroys and booties!

This blouse did not last long in my wardrobe, it was too hard to get on and off.  I went with too small sizing.

  1. Thanks for the tip about the pulling at the sleeve. I have the very same issue with my most recent make and was not 100% sure what to do about it. Beautiful blouse!

    1. Thanks so much, that is my best guess for the fix, it seems my top is narrow in the shoulders.

What a great idea to use a plaid for the collar. It makes it so unique. It turned out beautifully!

    1. Thanks, Linda, I was planning on make a JCrew inspired top with my Archer pattern but I couldn't find a third fabric for this combo. So the Airelle was a good substitute.
