No Time to Sew......

How do you handle no sewing time?  Do you shop for more fabric?  More notions?  Patterns?  Sewing magazines?  Head to Pinterest and get ideas for garments? Head to your favorite sewing blogs for inspiration?   Look in your closet and evaluate what you need?   Just get grumpy?  Nervous or frustrated?

Well, I haven't had time to sew a garment since February 20th, that is a long time for me.  We have been busy with all sorts of things.  I have been at Paige's house, then wedding planning and shopping for Erin (May 26th will be here before we know it), district basketball, work (2 busy jobs is keeping me very busy), new flooring in the family room (moving things out and putting back).  All great things and much more important than sewing at my machine.

My answer to the above questions would be Pinterest, blogs and become anxious, then of course dream about my sewing.

I am happy to report, yesterday I was able to sew!  Hurray, I worked on a Hot Patterns Rivera jacket from red ponte, it is part of my Wardrobe Basic sewalong.  It does take me some time to get back into the rhythm of sewing again (like, why did I just stitch that?  topstitching is crooked, where is the seam ripper) , but my machine was humming and my jacket started to take shape.

So what do you do when you can't sew?  Leave a comment or answer the poll (created just for this post) - whe do you do when you can't sew.

  1. When my daughter was gravely ill a couple of years ago. I bought fabric on line at the hospital to keep from thinking. I came home to more than 25 boxes of fabric weeks later. I had no idea how much I had bought. So I buy fabric when I can't sew. I now have a house stocked with more fabric than you can imagine.

  2. I tend to handle it by planning for sewing via Pinterest, thumbing through my Burda mags, trolling BMV, organizing my fabric, cleaning the sewing room, or just making up something quick and brainless. This week, for instance teething #2 has shortened my time considerably, but in my more limited time, I've still been able to make a quick Jalie scarf collar top (takes me about an hour), and a small tote bag I've been needing/meaning to make for for forever.

  3. I do a little of all of the above! Except pinterest, which I haven't tried!
I've sewn the riviera cardigan twice- I love it! Can't wait to see your version.

  4. When I don't have time to sew I: read sewing blogs, look at fabric websites, or jot things down in my sewing journal (which is a little notebook I carry with me so if an idea strikes me I jot it down) or if I'm out and see something I like I will maybe draw a little picture to help jog my memory. After all this I become anxious to be tucked away in my little sewing room.

  5. This always gets me...you can always tell when I'm not hitting my sewing machine on the weekends because way too much fabric arrives...because yes that's my stress reliever. Sometimes plotting new outfits helps but most times it makes it worse because then I want to sew more than ever!

  6. It's horrible when I have no time to sew! I usually plan future projects by looking through Burda magazines and match patterns to the fabric I have on hand.

  7. I currently have little to no time to sew and I find myself buying patterns, lots of patterns. I do try to also have a really small sewing projects on the go but this isn't always possible. As you say, the hardest part is getting back to sewing. The brain needs to be cleared of cobwebs and stress first, which isn't always easy.

  8. I've cut buying fabric out of my queue for the moment so I fill my time with looking at other creations, and making mental lists of all the things I'm going to make when I have time.

I sew vicariously by looking at blogs like yours! I have nothing to show for my "efforts," except more longing to sew!

  10. ....and you were actually able to sew with all that's going on in your life including a wedding?!!
Pinterest and blogs are definitely the fix for me!

  11. I haven't had the time nor motivation to sew...but I dream of it; I buy fabric and patterns; I read sewing blogs...and I plan projects. Oh, and instead of sewing I've been knitting. But lately, the sewing desire has been coming back, and I'm hoping to get back at it. :)
