When I walk the treadmill, I watch You Tube and find inspiration.
What do I watch? Sewing related, style, lifestyle, decorating you name it.
I discovered What to Wear and love it. One item mentioned in the videos is a sweater vest and I loved how she suggested styling it.
Style Maker Fabrics' had this fabulous cable sweater knit in several colors and I found some in her Selvage Yard section. It was 2/3rds of a yard and I thought I could squeeze out the vest. If not then the cable knit could be for a granddaughter.
From the time the sweater vest was mentioned on What to Wear, I knew I would use the
True Bias Lodo Dress. The v-neck was perfect and with a few changes it would be just what I wanted in a sweater vest.
I eliminated the sleeve cap, cut it a bit wider through the body, needed room to layer. Deepened the armhole just a bit to accommodate a blouse. I just held the pattern up to my body for length, good news, it was just what I needed to make the vest!
It took about 45 minutes to cut and sew this garment and it was just what I had in mind for a sweater vest. Now the fun begins in my layering options!
I had this boyfriend blazer from Loft, a couple years old and knew the wine sweater knit would make a great outfit.
I've been searching for the perfect pattern to hand knit a vest, but this is such a great idea I think I might plan to sew one instead :-) Love the way you styled it (I watch What to Wear on YouTube too!), thanks for the inspiration!
