I love mixing prints, so Michelle of Style Maker Fabrics helped with the perfect combination. I love this floral rayon and the plaid.
I went through all my patterns and decided to use Simplicity 8454, thinking I would use the plaid for the yoke. The more I played with the fabric the less I liked the idea of the plaid yoke. I decided to use the plaid to make it look like the floral was over another shirt, layered look.
The floral fabric is Style Maker Fabrics' Mod Floral Rayon Poplin and the plaid is sold out
Plus I used the plaid for piping at the front, between the yoke and lower front. I have to say this might be the best and most consistent piping I have done! I like how the small bit of plaid breaks up the floral
As you know, I am loving adding some embroidery touches to my garments and my Pfaff Creative Icon makes it so easy.
I used a built in design on the Creative Icon, using it twice to add more floral, but only stitching only the small flower, I used twice. I did add some decorative eyelets to the embroidery, a nice touch. I try to always stitch out a sample and so happy I did. I wasn't a fan of the green in the embroidery. What do you think of the green?
Here is the embroidery stitched out partially
Here it is completely stitched out
and on me
I didn't want the back to have the opening as per the Simplicity pattern, so I added a placket and buttons. This looks so much better than a small button and loop.
The neckline finish was the plaid binding
I used another pattern for the shirt tail hemline and cut with a few extra inches. I basted the plaid to the shirt to check the length. I used the plaid for a cuff- layered look on the sleeve, this was something that wasn't plaid but I really am happy I added it.
So that is another new top for me and I had such fun mixing prints and adding embroidery.
Lovely!
