McCall's 7445 - Top

A new fabric arrived at my house and I couldn't quit touching it.  This sweater knit was amazingly soft and I knew I needed to add it quickly to my winter to spring wardrobe.

This fabric came from Style Maker Fabrics and it was end of the bolt. (here are some other sweater knits)   I had 1-1/2 yards to use and my first thought was a cardigan but I didn't have enough for the length I wanted.  I decided to go with the v-neck sweater from McCall's 7445.  You might recognize the number, it is the pattern from my cropped wide-leg pants.

I added 2" to the length of the sweater but it still seemed too short for me.  I had just a bit of fabric left, just enough to add a bottom band for the sweater.  It was just a bit shorter than the bottom width of the sweater, perfect it drew in the bottom edge for a tighter fit at the hips.

Here is a better look at the waistband.

It seems the fashion emphasis is on sleeves and this pattern showcases a dramatic sleeve

I added an inch to the sleeve length but I ended up taking that extra inch off.  I was amazed at this as I have long arms and an inch sometimes just isn't quite enough.  Pleasant surprise.

Here is the best picture of the sweater, I noticed while taking the pictures, I didn't have the neckline sitting quite right.

I really liked sewing this pattern, it was quick but fun to make and I always love a v-neck.

One last picture, I thought I would sit down for a couple of pictures, but Junior had other ideas and about pushed me off the steps!

  1. Beautiful Sweater Lori! Love your idea about sewing on a waist band - I'll have to remember that! I'm tall as well and typically do have to lengthen most patterns but sometimes a waist band just adds more of what you might want ie bringing in the bottom for a closer fit!
