Style Arc Cold Shoulder Top

My first Style Arc pattern and I loved sewing it but....
not sure I love it on me.

This is the Cold Shoulder top

I used a rayon knit from Mood and it is a bit too clingy for my lumps and bumps!  I bought a size 12 and added just a bit of a FBA.  There are lines everywhere

On Gorgeous Fabrics's blog, Ann recently made this top and stated she was going to make it in a rayon doubleknit the next time.  I think that might be a good fabric choice.  I am going to work on this a bit more, so the bust fits and then it doesn't stand out around the waist and hips.

That type of fabric might make all the difference.  I will try it and see before I give up on the pattern.

I still will wear this one but will work on it one more time.  Suggestions?

  1. Open the side seams and add a long diamond shaped piece. Don't make all four sides of the diamond all the same length. Long v from underarm seam to hem and then short v to give it a little visual interest. Hope you can make sense of this. I think a little swing would do it wonders. Have a good one!

  2. I like it! It will be perfect on you after a little tweaking. I also think Ann is right, the fabric makes a difference.

  3. It does still look like you have too many pull lines near the bust area so, more fullness in that area. You also look like you have great upper arms so I'd actually open up the shoulders even more to let more of your arms peak out....perhaps that will distract from the "lumps and bumps" you don't want to highlight (that I don't even notice in your pics, by the way). I like the design, though - don't give up on it! I'd love to see your second draft!

  4. I agree with Jill about the pull lines near the bust. A full bust adjustment is likely to open up the shoulder a bit, but it may need to show even more flesh to flatter (now that's a conundrum for women of our age!).
