McCall's 6844

Have you seen the Best Patterns of 2013 over at Pattern Review?
Great article once again by Diane and it moved McCall's 6844 up on my sewing list.

I used this really nice ponte from Mood Fabrics'

Well, I don't love it, first I made a size too big.  After several adjustments, it is better but still not great.  I look a bit frumpy in this jacket.  Maybe belted would help it or maybe not

This looks a bit better, I did add 1" to the length and to the sleeves

One thing with the nice long peplum, the jacket gets a 10 on the spin factor.

But you just have to keep your balance when you finish the spin!

So I will probably wear this jacket some but it won't be a favorite.  If you make it, double check the size and you will be happier with the results.

  1. I think it's cute Lori. I misjudged the size on that one too.

    1. Thanks, Faye, it will grow on me. What is it about how you think it is going to be and then the reality of how it is?

  2. It would seem that all the Big 4 patterns are running large now. Is it vanity sizing gone a bit daft?

I love the red and suspect this will grow on you rather a bit.

  3. This is my favorite cardigan pattern, I also made it a little bit big, but I still love it. You look fenomenal in red! I love how you styleed it.

  4. I don't think it looks bad (all the items you make are great!) but would you like it better if you removed the peplum?

    1. Oh, Kyle you are so sweet. I am wondering about some fish-eye darts in the back, help to take in some of the extra.

I love this color on you! I bet you would like it better belted, though, as you seem to be digging belts lately. Looks like a really practical, wearable garment!

  9. I think it looks great, but I know how pictures vs how you feel IN the garment can change things. Regardless, that is a nice and full peplum! Love the spinning pictures :)

  10. I would hate to have something in my closet that's that lovely and not enjoy wearing it. Can you sell it to someone would could wear it? Then you could make yourself another one!

    1. Lisa, I am going to give a few more tries and then will probably give it to someone else.

  11. Lori, I made one that is nearly identical, out of a red Sophia knit that I bought from Vogue Fabrics a couple of years back. I am also on the fence about it. I don't feel frumpy but I don't understand the overwhelming love the pattern has received. I might shorten the peplum a bit in the back because it feels as if I'm wearing a frock coat. I do think the color is great on you, though, and will be interested in how you feel about it after wearing it over a dress or skirt instead of pants.

    1. Barbara, it is nice to hear someone else has the same feelings about this one. The shortened peplum might help.
