Mood Fabrics' Sweater Knit - Simplicity 2309

You know those days when you need comfort foods? Well, some days I feel like I need comfort clothes and for those days what is better than a sweater knit. Online at Mood Fabrics' there is quite a selection of sweater knits. After much deliberation, I ordered Mood Fabrics' Mallard Blue Brushed Cozy Acrylic Knit, blue tends to be one of my favorite colors.

Thanks to JStarr's review, I went with Simplicity 2309,a cardigan with a wide collar and a flounce at the bottom.

This fabric is the coziest and oh, so warm. It is perfect for these cold winter days in the Midwest.

The flounce and collar is two pieces and the raw edge is left unfinished. I did sew 1/4" from the raw edge to keep these fabrics together. After this bit of topstitching, i trimmed all the edges to make sure they were exactly the same. This was a perfect solution for my thick fabric. Here is a close-up this edge.

The cardigan has a great front button band and nice front shaping. With the stretch of the sweater knit, I made corded buttonholes. This helps so much, keeps those buttonholes from stretching all out. Now with this warm and cozy sweater knit, I am ready for the rest of winter.

  4. That jacket looks stylish and comfortable, which is the best combination, I think:) I will have to remember your tip about the buttonholes with knits.

  5. I haven't made clothes in 20 years (I'm 52) but I found your blog and read it constantly. I enjoy seeing what you make for yourself and your daughters. I read with interest what your stylist had you pair together the other day. My friend who should be a stylist is always telling me to get over my black with black thing (shoes/boot) so I have tried wearing my cognac boots with a couple of gray things instead of my gray boots. I have liked the results. I wondered if you would wear cognac boots with your outfit today? It's hard for me to switch from the "match" mode to the "go with" mode! Thanks for blogging. It makes my lunch hours pass very quickly!

    1. Thanks, Lisa, so happy you enjoy my blog and we are very close in age. I don't have cognac boots but that is a great suggestion, maybe I can find some on sale.

  6. I know just what you mean about comfort clothes. Even though they call this a cardigan, it really passes for a very cute jacket. The color is so pretty. I can't tell you how many times I see a pattern you've blogged about and have to go out and buy it. I just made up the Airelle blouse due to seeing your version. I shouldn't have clicked on your Pinterest link to the triple chocolate brownies at the top of this post - have you made them?

    1. It probably is more of a jacket but I felt the sweater knit made it feel like a cardigan. I know what you mean about finding new patterns, many times I see one on PR or a blog. Then I have to go buy it! I have not made those brownies, just pinned them today. They do look delicious.

  7. From my perspective, this would be a great work jacket too. It's got enough structure in it and your finishings make it special too.
