New Look 6004 for Meredith

I just finished making myself a top from this Thakoon Navy cotton (it will appear on Mood Sewing Network later this month)

and I had some yardage leftover.  It has such incredible drape, I made a skirt for the girls.  Just a quick elastic waist skirt with a slight flare using New Look 6004

This was super easy to sew and Meredith went out to model it for me today.

It is a bit longer than she normally wears but wants to give it a try.  Then if she doesn't like the length I can shorten it a bit.

This fabric just has the best drape and will be a perfect skirt for sorority rush in less than a month.

How can they be going to college already?

    1. Thanks, Meredith helped to clean up my sewing room and now I have a stack of leftover yardage to make garments for her! I finished her another skirt last night. Meredith is the fashion girl, Kaitlyn is happy with running shorts and tshirts! You do need some Thakoon, it is the best feeling fabric and so easy to sew.

  3. That's like buy one, get one free. Very nice skirt. You're going to be an empty nester soon, aren't you? The house gets really big when the kids are gone.

Really pretty! This fabric is just so fabulous-- I've enjoyed seeing different people make things from it, and every single garment has been lovely!

  5. The skirt is precious. I had to laugh when I read your comment about the length of the skirt. I have a 23 year old son and I think that skirt's the perfect length! He probably would agree it should be shorter! Have a fun afternoon!

  6. I bought this same fabric from Mood about a month ago and I'm just not sure what to make with it yet. The skirt is a great (and quick) idea! I'll be looking out to see what pattern you used for your top.

    1. I used Grainline's Scout Woven t-shirt, used another Thakoon for sleeves, binding and added a pocket. This fabric has the perfect drape for this shirt, just skims the body and no boxy look. It is hard to decide what to make especially when you love the fabric.

    2. I think that's why it's taking me so long to figure out what to make - I'm afraid to cut into such pretty fabric! I made my first Scout tee recently and I also just downloaded the Tiny Pocket Tee so that's something to think about. I'm interested to see the contrasting fabric you used in yours!

  7. Nice two-fer with some beautiful fabric! As you already know, it is bittersweet when the kids go off to college. They start to make lives of their own, and we are no longer there everyday to hear the good and the bad. And the empty nest will take a little getting used to....but isn't all bad either :-)

    1. Thanks, Patty, I really like to get double duty out of yardage. There are things I am so going to miss and other things I am looking forward to. Thanks for the advice.
