Jorna Tank

I purchased the  Perfect Pattern Parcel #3
and the first garment I made was the
 Jorna Dress/Tank

My fabric is Mood Fabrics' Red Jersey

I really wanted to make the dress but I was just about 1/2 yard short on yardage.

Hubby and I leave tomorrow for a conference and Friday night there is an outdoor bbq.  This is my planned outfit, but now seeing the pictures, I am not sure.

What do you think?  Should I make the hem more of a gentle curve?  I don't know if I like that long middle part.  Suggestions?  Or should I just pack something else?  Does this look good?  Oh, the doubts are coming.  Please help!
I will have to fix it quickly we leave at 2 on Thursday.

The pattern is fabulous to make, it has a nice facing.  And speaking of the facing, I love the way the instructions have you sew the facing it is ingenious.

I do believe the armholes are a bit deep, I will shorten for the dress version.  My fabric stretches very easily, so after I finished making this garment into the washer and dryer it went.

Here are a couple more pictures

There was a show we use to watch on television - and it went "How do I Look?"

Let me know if I should change the hem?

  1. I think your instincts about the hem are right. It both seems to have an odd curve and strike you a bit low to be flattering. If it were me, I would make the hem smoother and shorten it a bit.

    1. Thanks, I wore it that way for the first time but will change the hem just a bit for future wear. I really appreciate your thoughts and comment.

  2. I agree with Lynn. I think as a dress it could have cute potential but there is something odd about the length and curved hem. Maybe cut it to tank length?

    1. Yes, good suggestion and that is on the to-do list. I need to purchase some fabric to make the dress length.

  3. Either way is fine - whatever you are comfortable in is the factor. I think you look great!

  6. Great tank! You look fabulous. I would like to see it a little shorter on you with jeans. Or you could make it a little longer next time, and with a little belt, it would make a great dress!

  9. I love the top as is, but if you have any doubts, I would gentle the curve and see what you think. Your necklace and jeans look great with this top!

  10. I go with the shorten and smooth out camp. When I saw the first photo, I thought it looked like it had stretched out in the front at first glance.

    1. LOL, on the stretch outed. I did have to wash it after construction. I wore it long the first time, ran out of time to shorten but I am going to shorten and straighten.

  11. I think the hem length is one of those things that, since you asked, I think should be shortened. But if I just saw you on the street I don't believe it would seem strange at all. Does that help at all?

Yay, red! I love it on you! I like the curved hem, but I think I would shorten it a bit. It seems long to wear with jeans, in my opinion.

  23. My feeling is if you are uncomfortable with the hem change it. Its different from what things you usually wear with the hemline. However you'll always be uncomfortable if its not your choice. Have a fun trip.
